Bloody Mama

Surprisingly dark for having spawned a series of Mama movies that were more interested in titillation than grime. Robert De Niro has an unpleasant experience with a lady less interested in heroin than himself and Bruce Dern is just plain menacing. There was a distinct lack of cheap looking rubber monster suits which is only a fault if your expectations are warped as mine are.

Some high weirdness here but overally rather dull affair.

There's some interesting things here but all the montages and voice overs kept taking me out of the film. There some great actors in this thing which is reason enough to watch it.

Roger Corman #10

A solid ensemble cast elevates this wildly inaccurate (and incestuous) retelling of the "Ma Barker Gang" story. Aside from Shelly Winters being totally psycho and a baby-faced Robert De Niro, Bruce Dern is really creepy even for Bruce Dern in this.
