Bloodsucking Freaks

For a trashy exploitation movie full of misogynistic sadomasochistic torture, featuring a heavy dose of goofy blood and guts, and plenty of 70's tits and bush, this movie sure as hell is boring. Unforgettable cinema sleaze? Sure. Worth the watch for the litany of quirks, charms, and oddities? Probably. Still, despite the occasion funny quip from Sardu, or WTF moment from Ralphus, the movie's 'outrageous' nature grows tiresome pretty quickly, and unfortunately there isn't much here beyond that.

Naked chicks die every few minutes.

A crass, tasteless and shoddy little number that goes out of its way to shock, but really doesn't succeed due to the negligible production values. The pretty-much constant stream of abuse suffered by naked women is unpleasant, but the silliness of the whole piece stops it becoming overly depressing. Of the cast, O'Brien has some charisma, but this is amateur stuff. Difficult to recommend.

As a parody about theater critics, it's actually pretty funny at times. As a sick exploitation flick, it's still more entertaining than The Passion of the Christ.

This is the kind of a movie you tell yourself halfway through "I must be really sick to watch this, don't I have better things to do". I actually turned it off to watch Cannibal Holocaust instead (which appeared to me this time as a lavishly produced adventure film/philosophical fable with Oscar-worthy performances and direction).

Master Sardu splashes around lots of red paint and drops some hilariously corny quips as he tortures girls and his dwarf companion makes sweet love to a severed head. Looks like it was filmed in someone's basement, with a large piece of black cloth hanging in the background of every scene. Two words of warning for more squeamish viewers: Cock Sandwich.

This tries hard to be funny but isn't, with an outlook so nihilistic and misogynistic -- all the women, apart from the heroine, are raped, sodomized, and sliced up while frontally nude -- it's often hard to watch. Picketed by women's groups in the early '80s, this is one of the few horror films truly deserving of such condemnation. Of course, this will be taken as recommendation for some, but honestly, proceed at your own risk.

Such a bizarre movie in so many ways. The juxtaposition of the cornball jokes and the horrific sexual violence is so weird that it's almost charming. Almost.

Even fans of this debased genre will be appalled; the parodic tone only serves to make the violence even more misanthropic.

Unforgettable. And yes, it's sick. If I ever get married, I want Ralphus to be my best man.
