A hardened patriot with a brave heart living a quiet life in the desert beyond Thunderdome, Mel Gibson goes maverick after seeing signs that his daughter might be ransomed, and subsequently uses his lethal weapon to get payback.

A completely by-the-numbers revenge script, executed with adequate directorial capability, which shows us that Mel Gibson still exists (albeit in older and more grizzled form), can still carry a film, but cannot turn water into wine.

Solid 80's style action flick.

A gritty, crime thriller whose characters are grimy and flawed. It's one hundred percent derivative, but to expect something unique in this genre is to set your expectations too high. I've always loved when Gibson takes rolls like these.

Gibson's return to the action genre is the chief interest (and notoriety) for this film, but as a tough throwback to the go-for-broke sleazy action films of the 80s, it does score magnificently well, thanks to taut action scenes and Gibson's powerful, charismatic and credible performance. Falters somewhat during some out of place comic relief interplay between father and daughter, and some story elements in questionable taste which seem to reference Gibson's real life controversies.

Gibson rivals any actor in the last forty years when it comes to sheer magnetic screen presence, and it's great to see him back in this sort of grungy violent affair (you can almost squint and see his somewhat depressed but witty John Link as a Martin Riggs whose life didn't go quite as planned). The movie's main problem may be its low budget - none of the action scenes are exactly spectacular, and you can tell it's a straight-to-video affair - but for straight-to-video it's totally solid.

My favourite aspect of this film: Mel Gibson calling the shots as the action unravelled like a true action movie veteran. A lot better than I expected. And what a title!

Unexpected gem of a movie. Action AND dialogue in an intense story interspersed with some sharp humor. Gibson's never been better and Moriarity is the catalyst that makes it all work.

I don't understand how this movie got this good a praise. Apart from the acting, the movie jsut falls apart with a very cliché screenplay, a too much in your face DoP style with hand held cams and filming style and bad editing specially at some scenes, which screamed with loud bad cuts. Not much to offer..

This was fine but it wasn't quite the kick-ass Mel comeback I was (we were?) hoping for. It's set in dusty rural California and involves bikes/biker gangs in an attempt to appeal to the Sons of Anarchy crowd. Also it's another one of those Middle-Aged Dad Saves His Teenage Daughter action flicks. I oughta make a list of all those frigging flicks.

Mel Gibson, let's be clear is a first rate ass in real life, but seeing him in this made me remember why he was such a huge movie star in the 80s and 90s, he has enough screen presence to rival the best. His performance in this as a disgruntled father trying to protect his formerly long lost daughter lifts this already very solid, extremely well paced action thriller up ever more

A standard chase movie made better by the brutality and Mel Gibson's performance which reminded me of Clint Eastwood. Erin Moriarty was the weakest part of the film but since a lot of her screen time is shared with Mel her acting doesn't drag the movie down much.

I wanted to like it, I really did. Gibson is on top form, the movie is fast and even exciting at times... and yet, by the end I could only think "that's it?", I guess the movie goes not with a bang but a whimper and squanders the potential it built up itself.

Blood Father sees Mel Gibson back on form. Part action-thriller, part father-daughter redemption tale, the whole works rather well. I hope this is the beginning of a new Gibson cycle.

Good to have Mel Gibson back and motivated! He can make any sucky script feel awesome, something Blood Father (2016) is a prime example of. Regardless of issues we need guys like Gibson. No one can bring color to the screen like he can.

This really doesn't have much going for it. If you like Mel Gibson, well there's that but everything else about this tacky revenge flick is terrible. Erin Moriarty is particularly bad.

Remarkably trite and tasteless but undeniably entertaining, especially the bullshit action scenes. The one eye-opener was the part where Mel Gibson apparently has a problem with Nazis (and he's a good actor so he kinda pulls it off!).

pretty routined bullshit, but with a somewhat charming level of self-consciousness. i'm not sure whether gibson's heavy breathing is always an act, and moriarty looks like a youtuber out of her comfort zone. could've done better with more finesse and less terminator 2.

Pretty sleazy cartel actioner with some nice comic bits and a heavy-handed father and daughter relationship. At least Mel has room to do his best as this loser ex-con who's got nothing to do but shoot some dudes in order to protect his kid. The kind of straightforward neo-western I wish Collet-Serra had directed.

Mel Gibson does his frantic intensity, which is nice to see again. The story, however, is so familiar its boring. Its quick and lacks enough back story for its supporting character for me to care.

Gibson returns to his action roots as a grizzled broke ex-con who vows to protect his daughter from vicious drug dealers and wreak vengeance upon them. During Mel's heyday this would have been a slick big budget studio release marketed to a mass audience. Instead we get a relatively cheap, competently directed action thriller that is prime DTV fare, confirming his declining status. It moves at a brisk pace and gets the job done, but it lacks excitement and the performances are ho-hum.
