A slow and surprisingly uncomfortable burn. You just want to shake the main characters and shout "What are you doing? Tell these people how you really feel! Why are you trying to be something you're not aaagh!!" and then I realised I was shaking the TV instead and the nurses quickly ran in and injected me with that weird stuff that makes me sleepy. Anyhoo, excellent drama about friendship turning to ashes, not through grand dramatic events but worse; by minor events that kinda make sense.

Bleak Night is one of the most accurately titled films I've seen in a while. It's a serial gut punch of a film, one where every character's actions are understandable and elicit at least some sympathy, even when they're clearly doing the wrong thing. The film's strength lies in how clearly it portrays them being driven by the ridiculous pressure adolescents can live under due to family (or lackthereof), inadequate guidance in school, peer pressure, and countless other things. Powerful film.

feels too unkind to myself to spend two hours on this grimness, even if it is finely crafted. and i am convinced SK teenage dialogue is the worst thing in the universe
