Black Moon

Rewatch. Fascinating adventure movie that's all about the compartments white people have put women and minorities into. Can be read as deeply racist and anti-feminist, or exactly the opposite-- and both work well. Deeply atmospheric, great use of music, and a haunting anti-climax make it a real corker.

It has a lot of atmosphere but not much else.

Dark voodoo story about a white girl returning to the tropical island she once experienced something gruesome. The drums are banging again as full moon is nearing. Dorothy Burgess plays the lead as the girl seeking danger. Fay Wray is more the nice back-up girl while the Burgess chases her black demons. There is a sense of mystique hanging in the air while the real excitement doesn't really arrive. And that's the main problem with this. Slow interesting build-up which doesn't reach any peak.
