Biosphere

I give credit to Brown and Duplass because they're trying really hard to make this material work. If you're going to have a movie about two people in a dome, you need to have a script that a) has engaging dialogue and b) explores deep questions. The script is not up to the task. It scratches the surface of a few thoughtful ideas occasionally, but mostly it meanders, making it feel twice its length. It should have been more emotionally resonant, as well, but it failed at that.

Biosphere is a rather delightful low budget sci-fi character study/Buddy film. The whole movie centers around two friends in a post-apocalyptic bunker, and luckily the casting nailed both roles. Mark Duplass is great, and this might be my favorite Sterling K. Brown role. On top of that the production design while simple is on point, and there are also some great bits of dialogue. I think the overly talky nature of the film can make things feel a little stagnant at times but overall I enjoyed it.

Funny, horrific, and filled with jaw-dropping, “WTF!?” moments, this boundary-pushing film is guaranteed to get you talking — a lot.

Brown and Duplass were both quite good. The script was just okay. It's one of those where I wanted to like it more than I did. Some poignant moments elevate it to a 5.5. Worth a watch for those fans (like myself) of the Duplass brothers productions and in this case of Brown who was phenomenal, but those expecting more than a shoestring budget and a somewhat slow pacing that's dialogue heavy ought to look elsewhere.
