Primo and Secondo are two brothers who have emigrated from Italy to open an Italian restaurant in America. Primo is the irascible and gifted chef, brilliant in his culinary genius, but determined not to squander his talent on making the routine dishes that customers expect. Secondo is the smooth front-man, trying to keep the restaurant financially afloat, despite few patrons other than a poor artist who pays with his paintings... (imdb)

A film so nuanced and brilliant that not a single character utters, "That's-a spicy meat-a-ball."

A lovely character study that is both dramatic and hilarious. It examines in these people without pretense or heavy-handedness: what's important, what they want, and how much they really know about one another. The brothers' arguments and Primo's bumbling attempts to reach out are priceless. The whole cast is outstanding, the music and production design are great, and the food gets me cooking Italian every time I put this on. A perfect film with a perfect ending.

Wow. A wonderful ode to the quaint family restaurant, all but gone in our fast food nation. The last shot is marvelous and ballsy, undermining your expectations while perfectly winding up the narrative.

Not so much a foodie film as a dramedy in which food plays a significant part. A small, intimate and lovely movie that doesn't pretend to be grander than it is. Yet it manages to feel like - pardon the pun - a feast by focusing on character, mood and authenticity. The last shot is fantastic in its ballsiness and simplicity.

An Italian-American version of Babette's Feast but almost just as great. Funny to see Tucci show his Italian side as Segundo especially when combined with his fictional brother Primo. But what I really love about this movie is the general feel and how it captures the love for food, family, friends and music.

I love this film. The relationship between Tucci and Shalhoub is superbly played, often without words. The support is all good, with Holm particularly memorable. The soundtrack is perfect, and some of the best food scenes ever filmed are here, often beautifully choreographed in long, wide shots. Wonderful.

Despite a few pacing issues, Tucci's Big Night showcases Tucci and Shalhoub's acting prowess while delivering a plot surrounding Italian-Americans that has a refreshing lack of Mafia. The 1st act is sluggish but delivers a great introduction into the characters' personalities and idiosyncrasies. The dinner scene is great, blending the joys of food and company into a cinematic treat. The direction lends itself to plenty of comedic beats. The film doesn't flow as well as it should though.

A -not particularly subtle- family, culture-clash dramedy; business bad - art good, follow your dreams, the land of oppo... could've been unbearable but it's so well crafted -especially the sound and music- and so enjoyably cast and acted It really worked.

A great example of characterization done right. The story is simple, but the brothers serve as a complex and powerful metaphor for tradition vs. modernization, faith to one's values vs. adaptation to society's demands. Ian Holm tried to hard in his performance, and Minnie Driver didn't try hard enough in hers, but that's easily forgivable in a film so deliciously crafted. The last scene is 100% golden!

this is one of a kind drama that surround itself with delicious food made by talented actor.even if the title had somehow weak reference with its essence,a family struggle between the two brother. the character were brilliantly and superbly acted by Stanley Tucci and Tony Shalhoub. they conveyed a believeable bond as brother. there was no overacting whatsoever which made the movie easy to relate to. it is simply a great recipe that combines serious acting and remarkable storytelling.

Pretty funny. I love the last one shot scene where Stanley Tucci just cooks eggs ... and then they eat.

Although snugly at home in the burgeoning genre of the food film (_Babette's Feast_, _Like Water for Chocolate_, etc.), this is much more food for thought than food for tummy, an "issues" movie about the artist versus the businessman in the American marketplace. Only the culinary details are dated; the aesthetic issues remain as timely as ever. The moviemakers do not have the chutzpah, or the Italian equivalent, to pass themselves off as foursquare on the side of art and the artist.

Gorgeous & tasty film filled with zany energy, true sentiment, great characterization, it lives on the relationships between Primo and Secondo (Primo was my favorite), and talks about art vs commerce, compromise & passion. So many beautiful evocative, poignant scenes! I want to silently eat an omelette with my sister now.

This is not a film for fast-food junkies, but for those who like to spend an evening at a restaurant, enjoying the ambience, not caring that their meal takes a good deal of time to prepare. Luckily, a good portion of the dialogue is subtitled Italian, as it was difficult to hear all of the dialogue over the sound of my stomach growling.

The movie is every bit as delicious as the food shown. If you like the movie, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of the cookbook Cucina & Famiglia, created by Stanley Tucci's nonna and the chef who helped Stanley Tucci get ready for the film.

A film that rises above its formulaic narrative with characters and dialogue that carry nuance and irrationality. Being able to convey a sense of messy human nature in such a tight plot is rare for films of this era. The ending gesture is wonderful.

1950 yılında Amerika'da İtalyan Restoranı açan iki kardeşin hikayesi. Çok güzel naif 1 film. Kardeşlik, rekabet ve yemek sahneleriyle film izletiyor. Oyuncular, rollerine çok iyi çalışmış. Birbirlerinden çok tatlı rol çalıyorlar. Filmin sonunda, kardeşlerin kavgası ve 1 kahvaltıda barışması. Gitme kal bu Amerika'da.

Big Night is a fairly charming character study, with some very solid acting. The cooking scenes are also shot extremely well. Unfortunately the movie suffers from significant pacing issues, and ends up being somewhat unengaging because of it (It really just needed something to give it a spark of energy). The ending while well done, ultimately feels flat as well. Not all together bad, but as a huge fan of Stanley Tucci's second movie The Impostors, I was just expecting a lot more from this one.

WEBRip RARBG.

For some reason I was under the impression this drama about two Italian brothers running a restaurant was a comedy, and was expecting the titular Big Night to blow up in a huge farcical climax. Instead it was basically food porn, where a well prepared meal is the panacea for all life's ills, and even a simple omelette can reinforce the bonds of family. It's got a great cast and an intelligent script, but it falls firmly into the category of "not really my thing".

Tucci proves once again he is a more convincing actor than director. The movie is a lot fun, and its does make you hungry. While most of the cast is fine - although Driver and Rossellini should have been given a lot more to work with as they are mostly wasted - it's Ian Holm who really stands out with his mania.

Like the American Dream its characters have pursued, the film seems to promise a wealth of splendour, but delivers a fair amount of frustration among its moments of charm. I was expecting the food and banquet aspect to be more sensationalised. While it had some nice directorial touches, it was too restrained. The characters failed to win me over. The bickering brothers are more hapless bourgeois fishes-out-of-water, than industrious immigrants. A touch more Mario & Luigi could have helped them.

Even though it could've had better direction, the end product is a wonderfully charming movie, that I'll love to revisit. The cast was great, however with one small miscast - Minnie, Minnie...I liked you in "Grosse Pointe Blank" but that's about it, sorry babe.

One of best movies about food. Thumbs up for S.Tucci in all parts he has in this movie. Loved the ending shot and Italian dialogues. Characters were really good, being not so black-white as one would expect for this kind of movie. Overall brilliant and highly recommended.

A foodie lovers' dream. Makes me wanna go out and eat a whole mess of pasta. And the timbale -- oh, the timbale! Tucci and Shalhoub are at the top of their very considerable game, as well, but even these heavy hitters play second billing to the whimsically and lovingly filmed, prepared and devoured dishes.
