"Big George Foreman" highlights Foreman's life, with strong supporting performances. The Christian message is balanced, but the film's portrayal is shallow. The script is weak, and female characters are underdeveloped.

I liked the message and Foreman's redemption story, but overall the script feels lacking. It tries to cover so much time, with a sort of scattered focus, that it feels like it simultaneously drags and moves too quickly, and never really has the full impact you want, and ends up feeling a bit shallow.

Khris Davis gives a good performance in this film. This biopic doesn't do anything radically different with the genre but based on the performance by Davis this movie works. Overall I would recommend this film.

Formulaic and in your face, which was tolerable until he finds religion, when it becomes unendurable.

I actually agree with some of the criticisms I've seen, such as the story being told in a "sluggish" way. It's not the best version of this story. The boxing itself is not top-tier stuff, and while I think the guy who played Foreman was good, the rest of the performances were only decent. That's pretty much true across the board, this movie is decent. The directing gets fundamentals with a few weird choices. I enjoyed this partially because I really like boxing movies in general.

We have reached a point where the bars for celebrity biopics, as well as boxing movies, have been respectively raised to where this movie simply cannot reach. I have no doubt that this tells exactly the story it wants to tell, but in that, in its boxing choreography, in its performances (save for Sonja Sohn, who utterly shines), in its direction, and in its faithfulness to history, "Big George" falls well short. Feels as committed to "winning souls for the Lord" as it is to telling the story.
