Country mouse comes to NYC and his innocent big-city shenanigans soon take a turn for the deadly. Stodgy melodrama features many wonderful performances - Linden as leading naif, Blondell as sympathetic chorus girl, Courtney as sassier chorus girl, Bogart and the always fabulous Sparks as theatrical hangers-on - but also the perennially uncharming Kibbee as a floorwalker and Catlett as a fast-talking con man whose lack of likability is a shame, since he also reads like a proudly out gay man.

What a cast Warner Bros put together for Big City Blues. Lyle Talbot, Evalyn Knapp and HUMPHREY BOGART!!! And those are some of the UNCREDITED actors! The credited ones included Joan Blondell, Ned Sparks, Guy Kibbee, Walter Catlett and Grant Mitchell. All very familiar faces. Almost the least known actor was the lead role. The naive boy - Eric Linden. Nothing more then a passable performance, with his best moment was his final scene which was where he finally managed to nail his moment.
