New variation on an old idea. But where some movies might succeed in rehashing old ideas, "Beyond the Gates" is about as amateurish as they come. The acting is terrible, the dialog and delivery are so cringey that it made me want to repeatedly light fire crackers in my ear canals, and it's just plain boring too. The only tolerable part was the last ten minutes, but even that was borderline stinky.

A whole lot of nothing.

Awful! The 80s vibe is relegated to the poster and the tape (barely). There's no homages or shots or any other noteworthy reference or inspiration in it. The game itself is retarded and ridiculously low effort.

Interesting premise, but it gets too muddled to the end.

80s horror tribute is not especially scary (and punctuated with odd moments of gore trying for laughs, but don't go far enough over-the-top) but succeeds thanks to the surprisingly well-written and played dynamic between the two estranged brothers, and their attempts at reconciliation. Last minute introduction of a father figure doesn't really work, and details of the game itself are elusive and unconvincing. Still recommended to anyone who enjoys the nostalgic thunk of a VHS tape!

The setup is terrific, and the movie is genuinely engaging for the first 3/5ths. The conclusion, however, is a cliche storm, mixed in with a generous serving of fridge logic that doesn't bring anything in the way of closure. It doesn't help that the rules of the titular game are arbitrary, barely explored, don't form a cohesive whole nor further any sort of interesting metaphysics.

The dialogue is flat and the acting wooden, but there are a lot of good ideas in play here. Clever premise (Jumanji: The Horror Film), and some creepy imagery. The game reminded me of "Atmosfear", a VHS board game I used to play myself as a teen.

'80'ler synth'leri, kötü oyunculuklar, gülünç diyaloglar ve korku ilişkili temalar '80'ler filmi çekmek için yeterli diye düşünülüyor da koca bir dönemin oluşturduğu sinema iyisiyle de kötüsüyle de biraz fazla indirgeniyor. filmin kuruluşu iyi ama oyuna başladıktan sonra *bitse de gitsek* dedirtiyor.

The script doesn't come together some of the time, & there are definitely story elements that could've used more work, but truth be told this isn't too bad. The acting from just about everyone is good, the effects are fine for a lower-budget production, & the 80's throwback vibes are great. The premise itself is pretty cool & unique, too. Still, Barbara Crampton feels really underutilized & the pacing is kind of a drag. It has a whole lot of heart, though, & with its flaws is still worth a look.
