among all the characters the only good hearted, honest, sane and real one is the ugly flesh eating giant fish

This is how it was described to get me to watch this: "It has the premise of a generic Jaws ripoff / 'spam in a cabin' flick, but plays out like Aguirre: The Wrath of God." Unfortunately it's not just a Jaws ripoff but plays like a dumber version of Stephen King's The Raft from Creepshow - that had the benefit of not having 30 minutes of crap at the beginning and while not fantastic acting at least better than the oddly flat acting here.

I just don't get why the fish didn't answer their questions.

Not that bad actually. Good acts and the story is kind of intriguing although the budget is the worst of the movie.

While "The Raft" wasn't great filmmaking, at least it was only 20 minutes long. 21 Criticker points for the poster alone.

Yes, beneath not just the water but also the surface of the apparent friendships and sociality of those involved, who, yes, have (not very interesting) secrets and turn on one another and are in general self-seeking to a greater than usual degree for the genre. So, yes, 'beneath', but we're not exactly talking 'Notes from Underground'. The fish was at times a bit retro. A bit JAWS IV: THE REVENGE.

underwhelming for me. the creature was great and I was excited that they went with practical effects but the plot and characters were painfully dumb.

Once again, a horror film sets out to prove that dumbness kills. This one makes a near perfect case (alas, the writers are still alive). Add another brilliant chapter to the humans-outsmarted-by-fish genre.
