It's probably the best cast Keira Knightley has ever been, rather than as a swashbuckling pirate queen or King Arthur's wife or Domino or whatever else, but as a teenage chick who likes soccer. It's a fun and fairly enjoyable little romantic sports comedy. Good date movie.

The cover says its hilariously fresh and funny. I kind of feel as if the people promoting this film didn't actually see it. Then again, I come from a country that feels the need to add a laugh track to everything, so what do I know? ha ha ha

I really enjoyed the movie, it's really got a "Britain" feel to it, even though the main character is Indian. The story's great with many twists and turns which is quite a rarity among late comedies, and it's got a sad and real tone to it - which at first caught me off guard, but in the end it makes it really stand out - and empowers the ending. Plus, women footballers!

7+ highly recommended :: I think maybe the change of culture made it seem more fresh than it was, but it definitely seemed greater than the sum of it's parts. This must be one of those "feel-good" movies that I've heard so much about.

the best movie that could have been made, taking into account the dullness of the subject matter. it's hard to relate to the persecution of pakistani and indian people when you're an american, also any movie based on sports regardless of what sport cant be that good.

Thought this was about Beckham but turned out to be totally irrelevant. Nice and easy watch tho. Sad thing about this is that you only get to watch the faces of the players when they are dribbling, not the real football.

it was a pretty cute movie, definitely watchable. the acting was good, but i didn't buy the actors' chemistry it was pretty funny, it had some somewhat touching moments, but was a typical cliched film, with a typical cliched ending. the film had a positive message, and was overall, a very good average film.

Sure it's aimed at teenage girls, sure I'm positively happy to see a movie centered on an Indian girl and her female friend, but the movie's just bad (direction, photography, editing). The football scenes are awful too.

Despite the director (and writer), the winning cast comes through. Especially the three leads (the two girls and the coach guy), but everyone else too: her Indian parents and the white girl's mom. Having Beckham show up at the end was (like a lot of the stuff) hokey as hell; but the actors manage to rise above it all. In particular, when her mom is making fun of her "little mosquito bite" breasts; and her expression...I laughed (sympathetically) for days.

Started out solid, but the last half draaags. Should have been a tight 90 minutes (like a proper football match!). Funny that very soon after its release, the American women's soccer league imploded; and that now, in 2024, by all accounts the European women's soccer leagues are incredibly popular. Like, selling out the giant men's stadiums popular.

Bend It Like Beckham is a guilty pleasure that I enjoy a lot more than I should do. So many things about this film irritate me and whether I watch this on my own or with others, there are moments that make me sink into my seat with embarrassment. Admittedly though I cannot deny the feel good vibe that this film creates and after many viewings I still find enjoyment. For a film made post millennium, there's an incredibly 90's feel to it. And although the humour is light, this is an easy watch.

Top badass moment? This goes to Mr. Bhamra (Jess' father). It took him long enough, but he got 'there' in the end. Learning from the past and applying it to the future is badass; copying from the past and applying it to the future is not. 0 cats and 0 decapitations.

Awful chickflick, could not watch past halfway. Came back into the room for the end which was predictable.
