I'm all in favor of wholesome moral movies, but when Lorry decides to "go straight," about an hour in, the film collapses. Up until then, it's quite funny with all sorts of innuendo even with the overused golddigger plotline (with friend Minnie getting most of the best lines). If I were a hopeless romantic, maybe I'd rate this better, but the personality switch was too much to believe.

Naughty start with Constance Bennett & Pert Kelton just getting out of jail and prostituting themselves to New Orleans. Yes, pre-code directness. Kelton was like a bargain version of Mae West the way she was selling herself. On the way Bennett swims into the life of her leading man regular, Joel McCrea. A raunchy story turning out a little too neat for the ending. There is so much more dynamite one could have put into a story like that, but they played it out safe. Still enough filth to be fun.

A pleasant little comedy romance that benefits from a pre-production code raciness, Cava's brisk and efficient direction, two charming leads (brittle bad girl Bennet and hunky naif McCrea), and memorable support from Pert Kelton.
