Beauty of the Devil

A rework of Faust with Michel Simon as one of Satan's lieutenants breaking deals for desperate souls. Real fun, but not as great as the 1925 silent adaptation. But with Michel Simon... he's a devil at heart, and it's a joy to see him doing things that comes so natural.

This light, comedic take on Faust from René Clair is almost entirely Simon's show ... and it's worth seeing for his feisty, comedic performance.

Something about René Clair's style doesn't fit a serious drama. This movie is neither funny enough, nor somber enough, and it's too short.
