Whatever its intentions are, "Beautiful People" is practically filled with allusions to Godard's classic "Le mépris" and, surprisingly, part of it comes off as an actually intriguing reexamination of that film. Director Panayotopoulos successfully apes various Godard gimmicks and the acting is just as bad as it should be. And yet, the overall impact of the film is somehow lightweight -ultimately, it feels more like a well-staged parody rather than a proper homage.
