Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One

Being more focused on the crime solving element of Batman, it does an excellent job of building tension and atmosphere, keeping the viewer guessing about who the killer could be (assuming you haven't read the comics). Cool soundtrack, animation is solid, plot moves at a brisk pace but doesn't skimp on details. There's also a part near the end where Batman looks up at the killer and there's just this "oh you done fucked with Batman" feeling that was done perfectly.

A very solid Batman story with a noir vibe.

This incarnation of Batman shares a lot of similarity with the Nolan trilogy (or heavily inspired it), especially in regards to grounding the story closer to reality, but still manages to set itself apart in tone and characters. Part 1 features the mob, the Joker, and "Holiday". The animation is decent and the voice acting is good. Baker's Joker (channelling Hamill's) is the best part. A little slow at points, and Batman seems inept or inexperienced, but a good watch nonetheless.

I don't like that this movie was split into two parts or that we're forced to rate it that way on Criticker, but if I must rate part 1 separately, I think part 1 was slightly better than part 2. I was drawn in more to the mystery, and while the conclusion to that mystery in part 2 was good, it didn't quite land as well as I had hoped during part 1. Otherwise, the animation was decent but could still have been better. Good voice acting though. RIP Naya Rivera.

That's actually neat and the different artstyle and voice cast are doing a good job. You can tell Batman is kind of a bit of a newbie at it in this one, or that the story is focussed on trying to be more realistic on the investigation side of things

Solid first half of the story. It was a little slow at times but the acting and music kept things interesting.

Solid enough movie if you have read the comics. It definitely takes the Detective approach and it helps create a more intense film. It is a well animated film with a talented voice cast to bring this epic Batman story to life. The DC animated world just keeps growing and finding new ways to bring classic stories to life. It's fantastic for long time fans of these graphic novels to see them take shape as a visual delight. Cannot wait for Part 2 next month. Give it a watch. It is epic.

A great start to one of Batman's best detective stories. The atmosphere is reflected wonderfully in the animation, I especially loved the looks of the characters. Also, the voice cast did an amazing job.

It's fine, regular Batman fare but it's nowhere near as good as the original material. In the comic, scenes can be left mysterious and vague but this animated movie has to show action and reveal whole scenes and the story is poorer for it. (How many times do we have to see the silhouette of Holiday???)

Not bad. Not particularly compelling, but watchable.

Half of one of the most iconic Batman stories that ends with the Joker because of course it does.

Great animation. I've never read the graphic novel, but I really like the detective approach to batman and the amount of time we spend with the mafia.

It feels very long indeed for an 85-minute film.
