The actual Killing Joke section of the movie isn't bad, but fails to fully capture the sense of dread and tragedy that permeated the comic (and the upbeat post-credits scene doesn't help, either). The less said about the first 30 minutes, the better.

Hamill's Joker is the Joker to me and that allows for some lenience. It seems an odd decision to further develop a character for the sole purpose of making her demise that much more heart-wrenching (or if you've read the comic already, not really more heart-wrenching), however, as soon as I caught wind of this I was curious as to how they would play the final scene with the inclusion of audio, and that did not disappoint. Well worth a single watch and a future skip to BillyShears' 28:30.

Skip to 28:30 into this to actually get to the Killing Joke and not some horrible Batgirl bangs Batman story. You know how many belts and clips and tassels have to be taken off a batsuit? Batman smells out crime / full penetration

The original source material could only account for a 30 minute movie, so how do the execs in Hollywood stretch it out into a feature length film? By tacking on a woman empowering prologue complete with a stereotypical gay co-worker. Welcome to Hollywood 2016, where every movie needs to have gay culture and strong female leads, even when the story doesn't call for it. That one fucking scene where she comes out of the coffee shop and attacks the guy because he yelled at his girlfriend. BAH!

First half is as unnecessary as everyone says it is. They did adapt everything from the book correctly though. I dunno, I probably won't watch it again before I read the book again.

Even w/out the Batgirl "short" that's stapled like a tail on Frankenstein's monster to reach feature-length running time, this'll make you reconsider how important Bolland's art was & how rarely the genre dealt w/ such dark material for such a slight story to have such an impact. As for the Batgirl add-on, it's a great example of why it's a bad idea to try & meet never-good-enough PC standards. She does what she wants, but what she wants is a (Bat) man which still bugs 3rd-wave feminists.

Despite their "best" efforts to avoid the controversy that coats this story like stank on shit, the writers completely fumble the ball with a 30 minute prologue that causes even more damage than before. Follow that up with a retelling that's only serviceable in its presentation, and you're left asking if it was even worth double-dipping in this can of worms.

The Batman comics hold a gold mine of stories already penned, ready to be adapted into another medium, and gladly these DC animated movies have attempted to take advantage of this. While "The Killing Joke" might be one of the most famous arcs, this movie just didn't live up to its counterparts reputation. I'd say, it's a must watch for Batman lovers, but decent and not much else.

The Barbara Gordon prologue did nothing for the overall movie. It featured misguided characterization of both Bruce and Barbara, a need to sexualize one of two female characters in the film. It really only delayed the inevitable a less shocking and more painful version of the inevitably flat Joker entrance. Hamill lending his voice was the lone bright spot for a film that was spun from one of my favorite graphic novels.

So awkward -- but not without some moments of solemn and unsettling dances with the directionless malice that the joker represents. TDK's chaotic madman has become THE Joker, but the deeply unsettled, unsure, unhinged lonely Joker here was at least interesting. Phlegmatic Boyfriend Batman was unintentionally hilarious. Worth watching, but not a good movie really.

How do you cut out the "average man" monologue and replace it with a 30 minute episode of One Batgirl Hill?

A pitch perfect Mark Hamill performance is hindered by a pointless, boring, and kinda sexist opening created for this film alone.

The Joker is truly terrifying, but the other characters--and the story, but perhaps just as a consequence of being a casual fan--are uninteresting, and the film's gross treatment of Batgirl (and the "freaks") is more substantially unfortunate.

What a mess. The first half is nothing more than a poorly-written, inconsequential subplot, present only to flesh out the runtime. The main story then somehow lacks all of the bite and menace of Moore's classic graphic novel, with uncharacteristically limp delivery from Batman stalwarts Conroy and Hamill. The animation itself is disappointing.

Adaptation of the classic Alan Moore comic book. The problem here is the comic is so short adapting it directly would result in a 30 minute film. Instead they try and pad it out and the results are controversial at best. That said, the core and strengths of the original very dark storyline remain, and Hamill once again plays a note perfect Joker. Overall a good effort, but if the original source is precious to you, be prepared for some additions you are unlikely to appreciate

Every other animated flick seems so carbon copy so I guess I appreciate this one being outside the box, in more than one way. Ending was cool.

The beginning with Batgirl didn't bother me as much as some people, even if it's a little clunky. Once it gets to the actual Killing Joke adaptation it's quite enjoyable. It has good voice acting all around, though some of the lines are wonky. The animation mostly works, but doesn't call much attention to itself. This isn't one of the best animated Batman movies, but it's still fun. The ending is fantastic.

The Killing Joke is a faithful adaptation its source material, with a well-intentioned, albeit misled, arc to give Batgirl character depth. The story is okay, as is the voice acting. While Hamill is a close contender for MVP, Strong's performance is a little stronger. The dialogue is occasionally cluncky, noticeably when lifted directly from the comic. The ending is left ambiguous, which works as does somber tone juxtaposed against the Joker's lunacy.

I remember the traumatizing, formative comic-reading experience from long ago, but as this version took its course, with its much-maligned first part, I started to see the method in its madness. Barbara's plight - with her villains, with her mentor, with the world itself - is forever, oppressively under a threat of ultimate violation. When it finally happens, it's an inevitability; when she's forgotten in the story, it's an aware rebuke of the Refrigerator. It's still disturbing.

Wow this movie gets a lot of hate but you know what I liked it. The animation was good in a Batman the animated series kind of way. The voice acting all around was top notch. I really liked the mature interactions between Batman and Batgirl. Could it have been better? Well Yes, but that doesn't make this worse.

A mediocre comic story had just about the worst thing possible added as a prologue to make a downright terrible movie. I'm almost impressed (in a bad way) that the prologue took the problems in the base comic story and made them worse. Outside of good voice acting this movie is an embarrassment.

A big screen adaptation of the one of most famous one-shot Batman stories starring the voices from the 90s cartoon! Throw in an overlong Batgirl subplot and ruin everything!

The comic book is full 100/100. This one is very pale adaptation. Then the added story about Batgirl. It doesn't do any justice for the main story. They should understand that we are interested about the Joker, not Batgirl. They should reveal more about Mr. J. and fill some spots from here and there.

It's competent and i liked the animation, even if the action bits were simply serviceable rather than impactful, but its not an action story anyway. Didn't really feel the depth of the darkness or emotion to the story however. Still entertaining.

This was a disaster. Batwoman-Batman sex appeal base relationship conflicts was the first 31 minutes of movie ?! And animation is suck.. Barbara's eyes never look straight. She is character look like thorned apart. It giving the rightgeous credits of being R rated. ıts still some how soft.. Look like 16+. Extra scenes and characters make this shit even worse.. The unnecessary and poory written lines that never been exist on original comic book ! That was a disaster.

**Spoilers** Intriguing take on the Batman/Joker legend unfortunately falls flat due to a strangely compromised plot; tries to wear its R-rated credentials proudly, but keeps pulling back, especially in the second half when Hamill's gleefully nasty Joker is let loose. First half feels like a lot of unnecessary padding, with an almost laughable Batman/girl sex scene (and the rat doesn't even call her afterwards!) With some tweaks, the second half could have been classic Batman animation.

It was alright. When I read the comic I knew absolutely nothing about Batgirl, and it made very little impact on me, so it made sense to show the prologue story for those newbs like me.

I'm one of the few people who never cared for The Killing Joke comic. Too exploitative and I really hated Batman and Joker having their little bonding moment after everything that happened. So I'm not really into the second part of the movie, which is mostly a fateful adaptation. As for the first half: Wut? Nobody wanted that ship to be canon, not even the people actually shipping it. Also, they got the right voice actors, but the Bruce Timm-like animation could have used some actual Bruce Timm.

The last hour of this is a great adaptation of the book, exactly as funny, disturbing and creepy as you'd hope. But the first 25-30 minutes are garbage...A totally unnecessary addition to the story which forces the real plot to be feel rushed when it eventually begins, and presents Barbara as an incompetent overly emotional female who can't distinguish between flirtation and a threat of sexual violence, so that despite 3 years of Bat-training she needs to be rescued by her "boyfriend".

The Killing Joke is a fairly good adaptation, and despite some glaring issues, retains a lot of what made the graphic novel awesome. A great voice cast adds to the occasion, but some of the clunkier dialogue and a weird added beginning don't mesh well. However, that being said, The Killing Joke breaks the better half of the DC animated films on its great animation and awesome voice cast.

There's an uneven start that involves Batman being chased by jail-bait Batgirl utilized as a setup. As soon as we reach Hamill's Joker, that's where things get fun. The origin is minimal but I've felt that has always been the point. A dark tale that finishes comically and vague as it should be with this character.

For me, the animation movie Batman: The Killing Joke (2016) started off bland, but gradually got better once the main situation got established and flashbacks of The Joker's earlier life became a important part. Never an optimal Joker origin story, but I sort of appreciated the dry joke ending....
