Based in the continuity of the Batman Beyond television series, this is another great animated Batman movie. In this universe, the Joker has been gone for a long time. But as the title implies, he's back, still played by Mark Hamill. And here, he's crazier and more dangerous than ever before. Overall, this movie has some of the best moments in animated Batman history.

A great, bold, dark movie that stands out among its breed. The flashback sequence in the middle is unforgettable for fans.

Batman Beyond at it's best embracing the dark side of the series and using it's predecessors history to weave a great story which is probably the best of the Timmverse animated movies. The series itself would have been much better if it had maintained a similar level of darkness and maturity shown in this movie.

Bleak and gritty Batman subversion is perhaps a little too dour and melancholic at times, featuring an ageing (decrepit?) Bruce Wayne, and an additional layer of ugliness when the schemes of Hamill's truly sadistic Joker are revealed. Ostensibly a rendering made for younger viewers, it's a shame that it can't go as brutally dark as it probably should, but its still an interesting and enjoyable yarn, resting largely on Conroy and Hamill's iconic work.

Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker was, in my mind, one of the first big blockbuster animated movie that started as a comic series. Batman: The Animated Series was a powerful afternoon cartoon when I was young and this movie seemed like a continuation on that series in many respects. The voice acting talent in this movie is great. Mark Hamill as Joker is flawless and part of the reason that his voice has become synonymous as Joker. I watch this movie every few years and it still blows me away.

Top badass moment? Seeing (and hearing) that the warehouse rave scene in Gotham City is alive and kicking. The lava lamp there is massive too. I know it’s very middle-aged of me, but when watching films like this I often find myself wondering how much household insurance costs in places like Gotham. Given the levels of destruction wrought by the meddling of superheroes (and here we have a space-based laser trashing the city), it must be fucking expensive. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

Granted I've never watched Batman Beyond completely, but I don't get the hate for Terry. A decent dark story with callbacks to the animated original Batman. A chilling middle sequence.

The perfect example that DC is probably better suited for the animated film world. Even for those not familiar with the show this movie is well structured and entertaining. Although the bulk of the power rests on Mark Hamill's iconic voice work as the Joker.

Good story. I hated the animation at first, but got used to it towards the end.

I like the scene where the new batman laughs at the joker, I like Dee Dee and I like the music that plays during the credits. Other than those 3 things it's a uninteresting cartoon with hardly any good plot or anything that makes the experience of watching it equate fun.

Anopther good animated movie. Set in the future with a new Batman, Joker makes his return after supposedly being dead for years. Hamil and Conroy from Batman - TAS voice their characters, and do a great job as always. Even if you never saw Batman Beyond, this is a good movie.

Pretty dark for a cartoon, but not dark enough for a Joker story. Pulls no punches and Hamill is awesome.

OK flat out the way the Joker returns is totally stupid and contrived but this is still an entertaining cartoon. It is certainly darker and grittier than what is expected of Saturday morning cartoons, as long as you see the uncensored version, but not to a ludicrous degree. Mark Hamill is great as the Joker and you can definitely see how much he has improved since being originally cast as the part in the early 90's, even considering he was very good back then.

Like an exceptionally good extended episode of the series. It's dark and dramatic, the way it should be, and if Mark Hamill isn't one of the most brilliant voice actors alive today, then I don't know what to think anymore.

I love that it's so dark. Probably the best on-screen depiction of the Joker I've seen so far. The physics of the Tim Drake/Joker thing don't really make sense, even for a cartoon, but otherwise I quite enjoyed it.

This "Batman Beyond" stuff is kind of interesting. However: when they stick to wisecracks and action scenes they're all right. When they try to be "mature" (i.e. the whole substory about Batman & friends being this weird sort of dysfunctional extended family) the filmmakers sing way above their range
