Not as crazy or low budget fun as the 1949 Batman and Robin and suffers from the whole Evil Japanese angle. All that being said its still fun even if it drags and lacks the crazy gags and plot twists that can make these serials so entertaining.

An interesting curiosity, especially if you're a superhero/Batman fan. Its definitely a product of its time, and you need to be ready for some very offensive stuff, since its a movie made in the middle of WWII with a Japanese villain. Probably worth watching just to see the first of Batman on the screen, but even ignoring its offensive moments its not a great serial. The story tends to drag and the "action" is particularly unimpressive. Still, there are some good bits, and its a part of history.

Nipponese mad science, gansters in suits, Bruce's girl becomes a robot zombie and Batman get's his lights punched out at the cliff hanger of every week. Great stuff.

Regardless of what dated feelings this war time Batman series created, you can clearly see where the 1966 TV-series found it's inspiration from. Lovely camp quality humor and playful madness, though a lot of it was more unintentional for this 1943 serial. Since this was the FIRST EVER screen Batman, it's of great interest. A stark contrast to todays serious business, it's more catered to a youthful audience, not to be taken serious at all. And that's the charm of this old pop culture relic!

Campy and very much like the golden age Batman comics. However, that proves to not translate too well to the big screen. It's alright and it seems like everyone does a good job, but really, there's something that just doesn't work for me.

I got this with a Ghostbusters 2 VHS tape. I'm a fan of Batman and so I've seen it but if you don't like Batman or serials from yesteryear you can probably not bother.
