The comparisons with 'There Will Be Blood" are apt. Mikkelsen gives an intense performance, and Arcel once again shows us that he has a knack for making period pieces interesting and exciting. Visually, it's his most accomplished work so far.

Watchable, Mikkelsen is excellent in the part of the lonely stubborn dreamer who pursues his goal against all adversities. But the story is just a sequence of tropes, there's nothing remotely original to it. The very last scene is self-parody.

Beautiful cinematography and setting. Definitely not just a time killer, but a story that will stick with you for some time.

Arcel really pulled off something impressive here. The storytelling is pretty basic, that's been working for a century. Sometimes, the pace feels a bit rushed, jumping from one event to the next too quickly. Not a major issue, though. The ending also seems a bit forced, trying too hard to wrap everything up in a certain way. Still, the storytelling and the cinematography is fantastic, and Mads Mikkelsen is his usual cool self. Definitely one of the strongest movies of 2023, if not the very best.

A brutal, bloody, and complex story of savagery and ambition, this epic Danish historical drama is styled like an old fashioned American Western.

Another win from Arcel and Mikkelsen and even better than their previous collaboration 'A Royal Affair'. Beautiful to look at, well acted and entertaining from start to finish.

Beautiful, entertaining and often brillant. I could do without the final 15 minutes.
