At a baseball game between the Gashouse Gorillas and the Tea-Totallers, a heckling Bugs Bunny is forced to play all positions against the brutish Gorillas. Naturally, their muscle is no match for Bugs' wit and pitching skill. (IMDB)

It helps to love baseball, as the writers clearly did, but this is one of the stronger Looney Tunes shorts regardless.

This one really shows off Merrie Melodies' New York sensibilities. NYC pride suffuses everything about it, even the backgrounds and the character designs of the Gas-House Gorillas. And it works because the animators wrote what they knew.

Average Bugs Bunny short

Stands out in my memory because it placed Bugs outside the realm of his natural habitat. Less slapstick and more tongue-in-cheek satire. Better than average short, especially if you love old school baseball.

Probably one of the weaker Bug's shorts in my opinion. It's fun, but it doesn't quite make me laugh like some of the finest Bug's shorts. Bug's was often at his best with Daffy or Elmer, and neither of them are here.

Not as good as the first time I saw it but still very good.

Probably the best paced of the Bugs shorts, with great use of offscreen space. It's also one of the funniest.

Wherein we learn that all debates as to the greatest baseball player ever are futile, since the answer obviously has to be That Screwy Wabbit. I mean, he's his own catcher!--he strikes out the side with one pitch!--and he takes a bus to catch a fly ball (although kudos are in order as well for the ump who stays with him to make the "out" call, high atop the Empire State Building). Also loved the "Was this trip really necessary?" WWII rationing reference.

Classic Looney Tunes short. Pretty good all the way through, except the end which is a bit too silly.
