An ironic film for me to watch - not because I’m white; because I get my hair cut like once every three years. I’m currently rocking a full neanderthal hairstyle. The scenes set in the barbershop itself are fine, not outstandingly funny but a nice hangout vibe and clear distinct personalities for the characters. But man alive do the endless, ENDLESS cutaway scenes to the dumb thieves and the stolen ATM kill the pacing, they never stop and each one is pure stare-at-your-watch dead air.

Such a nice, good-hearted comedy that I can't entirely bash it. The whole barbershop culture is interesting even from a european angle, sadly the execution is just too harmless to arouse any real emotion.

Mostly funny comedy, manages to juggle about 4 or 5 different subplots quite well (though the one with the Indian shopkeeper never seems to pay off like it should). I could have done without Cedric The Entertainer as the old-timer dropping nearly unintelligible pearls of wisdom throughout the film. What this movie really needed was an attorney to drop into the barbershop to school Ice Cube on the finer points of real estate law.

The Friday of barbershop movies, it’s like the My-T-Sharp crew from Coming to America got their own film (minus the laughs). Makes serious points about the importance of these places to the local communities and there are a couple of surprisingly deep conversations about race; the characters grow on you and it’s fine enough to sit through but the jokes, action, plot etc. are too light and fluffy, and as the credits roll you wonder what you just spent 100 minutes on.

Breezy, thoroughly entertaining film eschews any expected political commentary, (outside of Cedric’s inflammatory but amusing rants), content to watch these characters (and actors) ping pong off each other, giving the film a nice head of steam during its flowering in the second act. If a few extraneous subplots threaten to bog the film down, (bar a brilliant David as a slimy gangster), it doesn’t take too long to regain its momentum back on the home front. Great fun.

Not so keen to see singers/musician as actors because they usually fail to perform. Although in Barbershop, Ice Cube and Eve are quite good... and movie is funny.

The social commentary doesn't go far enough to be essential viewing but the characters are charismatic and as a hangout movie it works great,

Somewhere between Do the Right Thing and Clerks. It doesn't have the incisive social commentary or instant quotability of those two, but it's definitely an enjoyable hangout movie.

Barbershop shows a version of what happens at barbershops in black neighborhoods. The movie does a good job of showing all the different types of black people and the different politics that each and every person ascribes to isn't any different between cultures. The cast of this movie is fantastic but the characters and story are boiler plate. I wish there was more substance to this movie.

Barbershop, while giving some chuckles, is not a lot more than an Ice Cube fame-seeking vessel. I can appreciate some of the humor in it, but for the most part, it's not delivered too well. Ice Cube and Cedric stand out more than any others. Also, what was up with some of those side stories. Yikes. Either way, Barbershop has merit, but it's far from the best comedy, or Ice Cube movie out.

I like this movie a lot. It's different from the normal black comedies because it actually has a message, and isn't just a bunch of black jokes.

Some subplots just seem extraneous and don't really fit the movie's tone, and a couple could be dropped entirely without losing anything from the movie. Certain scenes entertain, others miss wide. Meh. I guess I'm just not the target audience. On a side-note: how did Tim Story go from this to Fantastic Four? Damn you Fox!!

Definitly has some funny parts. All in all wasn't that great of a movie. Silly at some points and not to sound like a jerk or a rascist just somethings I don't get. Ice Cube is a talented actor absolutely, but it is definitly apparent that this film isn't directed to every audience. It has its moments where you think it will take off, but in the end it is just a let down.

I can't believe I sat through the whole thing. Ultimately, though, it's probably just not my kind of movie; wholly unassuming, it is basically frivolous entertainment, but nothing necessarily 'bad'.

More of an insight into Chicago than a comedy. For me the pace just wasn't enough to make the plot sustainable and the humour was too far apart to keep my interest.

A simple story that is made wonderful by the dialog. The cast was assembled very well and the internal stife of each character is touched on just enough to make us care about the characters.

I really loved Ice Cube in Three Kings but Barbershop is just completely unappealing to me. None of the jokes received anything more than mild smirk, and even that was rare, and I didn't find the drama entralling at all.
