Some weird Pixar nonsense about the birth of celebrity chef Graham Elliot.

The big WTF moment was pretty incredible, but this was otherwise just a little too basic. Also made me really hungry and had to go get dumplings after the movie.

The Pixar shorts do it again, now succeeding over their feature film. This almost has the joyful, ingenious, and emotional power of the montage scene from Up (similarly without dialogue), putting this alongside that as one of the incredible, touching, and human moments from Pixar.

"Bao" is as sweet as it is slight, a touching rumination on the feelings of emptiness and sadness that naturally come when our children stop needing us that just so happens to sport some stunning animation and a charming score. The concept of a sentient dumpling being used to convey this emotion, however, is a little harder to swallow, making for an allegorical tale that could've been better served as a traditional one. A solid enough Pixar short, but nothing especially stirring by my measure.

Bao showed the difficulties of an Asian mother in raising her child. The dumpling is a metaphor for her actual son, who appeared in the end of the show. I like how mother and son finally reconciled in the end. I like how despite their cultural differences, the daughter in law was finally accepted by the mother and the family was in harmony again.

Adorable dumplings used as deep metaphors for the pains of parents & children growing apart over time, and the total inescapable nature of that. How can you not enjoy it?

Cute and a little terrifying. The animation , particularly with regards to body movement, was surprisingly expressive. Not sure if the metaphor holds up to scrutiny but it gets the basic idea across.

For those criticizing the "eating scene", it's just freud's metaphor IMO.

Şirin mi şirin. Oscar ödüllü Pixar kısa animasyonu. Anne oğul hikayesi. Müthiş.

One of those that isn't particularly deep- just deals with the struggle of letting your child experience the risks of the world, letting go, and the selfish desire to thwart that- in food-based metaphor.

Pixar has made some amazing shorts (my favorite of the bunch being 'Lifted'), but (with the exception of 'Piper') they have really lost their touch.

"Bao" is a moving take on parenthood/ childhood that, unexpectedly, doesn't cater to the kid audience.

I'm pumping my score to the max for this one - it's not Pixar's best short, but it's beautifully animated, touching and has a pretty spectacular moment which effectively gives an underline (and exclamation point!) to the film's message.

It goes from being a wonderfully animated and touching tale about having a child, then the heartbreak of the child becoming a dipshit teen, then... what the hell? She eats her dumpling child? I had one of those mouth wide open reactions that I've only ever had when Lesnar defeated the Undertaker at Wrestlemania. I couldn't believe what I was seeing; it was so abrupt. But then they brought it back around and it ended on a touching note again. Every company: Put short films before movies.

Kind of on-par with "Lava" in terms of recent-memory animated shorts, though I liked the story in this one better. A culturally-diverse city like Toronto is the perfect backdrop for this. Can't put it up there with "Feast", though. #MoreShortsBeforeFeatures
