I was never a Jackass fan at the time ("Too unsophisticated for my tastes" he grunted, putting on another Aqua Teen Hunger Force episode), but Bad Grandpa kinda worked for me. The bare minimum narrative makes the various hidden camera antics land a bit better. The kid was amusing and surprisingly game for anything, and a few parts (the beauty pageant especially) had me howling like a madman.

There are definitely some funny pranks (a majority of which were spoiled in the trailer, unfortunately), but I did find the Frankenstein fusion of scripted, conventionally-acted material and reality TV-style pranks often a bit awkward and unwieldy.

It starts out funny enough, like most Knoxville films. Soon it loses focus and not even worth watching. Maybe would have worked as a series of sketches. The kid does an admirable job of keeping a straight face. Too bad his comedic talent is wasted here.

I love pork fat. I mean, who doesn't? But should I have to devour a whole can of Van-d-Camp's ketchup-flavored pork and beans simply to savor that single succulent slice of oh-so-sweet swine suet? No. No, I say.

This is just not working. At least Borat put himself in awkward situations which resulted in hilarious reactions from the people involved. Knoxville is just rude and when push comes to shove and his actions gets really interesting the action stops or is cut. Also the narrative where you know it's all actors doesn't help either. All in all, if you haven't seen the trailer, you'll have a chuckle or two. If you've seen the trailer, you already saw the best parts...

Man, had me laughing throughout. I didn't really pay attention to the story, just the reactions and crazy antics of one Johnny Knoxville. Waiting for the dvd release for the outtakes and deleted scenes.

Jackass + Borat makes for a pretty amiable combination in this mostly-hilarious addition to the franchise. Scenes in which Knoxville's Irving Zisman attempts to FedEx a child and runs over a car-lot's mascot are phenomenally funny. The sentimental touches are appreciated; they don't always work, but they're cute, they add stakes, and I like that there's some semblance of narrative thrust here. Good stuff.

Short on big laughs - this might not have been true had they not 95% of the big laughs into the trailer - but amusing throughout. Knoxville is admirably dedicated to his schtick. The best sequence comes early on, with a visit to a strip club on the east side of St. Louis.

I've never been as keen on Knoxville & co's candid camera skills as I have their stunts but there's clearly been work put into this one, and some of the unwitting participants' reactions are priceless. In fact it feels more like Borat than the old Jackass episodes, with a pitch-perfect performance from Nicoll adding to the hilarity. There are flatter scenes, and some suspect editing in places, but when you laugh you really laugh. Unsophisticated, gratuitous vulgarity, shock humour... I loved it.

All the best moments were in the trailer. The film is a loose collection of gross out gags tied to a rickety excuse for a plot that runs out of steam well before the finish line. The faux-reality set up is the biggest problem; it just seems completely lazy and unnecessary. Knoxville and the kid are capable enough performers, but the creators don't care nearly enough about the characters to make this exercise in 'bad taste' worthwhile, even in this low rent context.

A few rare good bits here like the swole black male strippers who run away horrified at the old man balls but this has lots of boring staged bullshit too. Wasted potential here and it fails to capture the essence of candid comedy like Borat did.

As much as I hate to admit it about a film that only has a few basic jokes, some of the pranks prove absolutely hilarious. The film mostly falls flat when Knosville and Nicoll try to pretend it has a particularly interesting plot outside of the pranks. I particularly liked the skewering of child pageants, even if it exists mostly as a byproduct of the comedy.

Now I know I should have expected cheap humour - but not to the extent you see in this movie. I have watched all kinds of movies and yet I went "Eew!" more than once in the movie. Most of the movie is humourous, I admit it, but being a bit selective would have been helpful. Also, the way it is shot - it really does not seem polished even though I totally understand that's how the Jackass series works.

So it's not terribly funny all the time, and, to be completely honest, you can watch the first 15 minutes knowing that those 15 minutes are basically the entire film. Probably moved up 3 points because of that single bed gag. I have not laughed that hard in a while, fucking stupid movie haha.

This movie is a weird mix of Jackass stunts mixed with a thin plot and some sweet moments. The kid in the movie played by Jackson Nicoll is excellent and Johnny Knoxville is wonderfully offensive in the title role. The strange mix is peculiar at times and does not always work. However there are several funny moments in the movie. Overall I would recommend this comedy.

Some of the gags (inevitably) hit with a thud, but what surprised me the most was how humanist and upbeat and good-natured it is. The type of humor here is completely diametrically opposed to BORAT's "Aren't rubes hilarious?" shtick--here, Knoxville makes HIMSELF the idiot and encourages everybody to get in on his high-spirited self-mockery. Filled with palpable glee, and frequently very funny; one of 2013's most underrated successes, I think.

I loved all of the Jackass movies. I think that troupe of characters are good together. The kid in this movie was pretty good too. For how much I like child actor, this says a lot. The movie just wasn't cohesive and it didn't live up to the low expectations of a Jackass movie. I don't need much; fall on your ass in interesting ways. The parts of the movie where they were doing stupid stuff in public was alright. But the story parts of this movie were not endearing. Which is what they wanted

This was a decent, fun comedy. I wouldn't say it was hilarious, but it definitely got a few laughs out of me. I really wish the funniest part hadn't already been spoiled in the trailers. The mix between real pranks and an actual storyline doesn't completely work. The transition between them didn't work as well as something like Borat (2006). It's not as good as any of the Jackass films, but Johnny Knoxville's fun and the kid is awesome, and let's face it, there are far worse comedies out there.

not terrible, but once again the trailer already showed the best scenes. the rest is pretty mediocre, since you're somewhat spoiled by the jackass movies, which had way more original stunts and offensive stuff. the attempt at a backstory is a nice touch, but doesn't really fit with the hidden-cam prank style the series is known for, and so you get something that's not hot, not cold, just rather luke warm.

Most of this movie blows chunks, but there is at least one scene that I laughed my ass off at. Crude stupidity rules this ridiculous story with lots of holes, and convenient cut aways that hurt its continuity. Also there are far too many lame ass crude comments that were torture and simply not funny. This movie is pretty raw, and certainly not for the entire family. But strangely worth the one or two belly laughs you'll probably get by watching it.

Good for a one time watch (if you like crude humour or the Jackass guys) The best bits were shown in the commercial, that being the kiddie ride through the window and the Little Miss Beauty Pageant. The merging of a hidden camera prank show with a scripted storyline is interesting as a genre, but you'd be better served watching any of the Jackass films as they are much funnier. Also, Borat did this a hell of a lot better.

Johnny Knoxville runs through a bunch of set plays (although it's MTV so you can't count out everyone in every scene being in on it) in elderly man make-up with an 8 year old side-kick. At some point his penis is stuck in a vending machine & he throws his characters dead wife into a river. Spike Jonze has the most erratic career bouncing from this to Her from foundations like Being John Malcovich.

It would be funny as hell as a 25min TV episode, but we are living in a post-Borat era -- so novelty is required, please -- and every bit of profanity looks both edgy and worn out, believable and unsurprising. The beauty contest sequence is the only one worth a second view -- the rest is as laughable (and forgettable) as your average Jackass material. Oh, and this is another comedy severely spoiled by its trailer, so texting during comic previews is allowed (and recommended).

Hilarious movie. Knoxxville and the kid both did a great job. It isn't a movies job to stop children from seeing the movie, it's the parents if they care that much. Stop trying to blame movies for not moderating themselves, it isn't their job. The movie did what it set out to do very well. If you're rating it based on the fact you think it's a bad influence on children, then you really aren't even saying anything about the quality of the movie, you're just butthurt

It keeps amazing me how serious (and even cynical) people can be while watching movies like this. No, of course the plot's no Nolan, the cinematography no Kubrick, and the dialogue no Tarantino, what the hell do you expect? All I want from a Jackass movie entitled "Bad Grandpa" is hilariosity, brought forward by elements including, but not limited to, penis jokes, fart jokes, young/old-people-doing-weird-stuff-while-bystanders-are-confused jokes, fart jokes, and more penis jokes.
