Ben Kinnear and Mike Paddock are detectives with the Melbourne Police force's elite Zero Tolerance Unit. Uneven but amusing semi-spoof of cop thrillers prefigures the more successful HOT FUZZ, but there's still a lot of funny stuff here, courtesy of writer-director Martin's signature drollery, plus a howlingly funny running gag involving the catastrophic damage caused by our heroes. Flattens out a little along the way, becoming the sort of conventional thriller it is trying to send up, but as with the concurrent CRACKERJACK, rescued and redeemed by its particular cast of eccentric characters.

Like a significant proportion of great Australians, Tony Martin is a New Zealander. Here he enlists a cast of his comedian friends to populate his directorial debut, a silly but amusing tale of police corruption. Rigidly deadpan Franklin is very funny but Molloy seems slightly weaker and his character a bit more flabbily defined. Dedicating the film to Ivan Hutchinson was a nice touch.
