B-Happy

I liked parts of this film, the actor who played the father was fantastic for instance, but I ultimately was disappointed in part because I felt that with all of it's veneer of realism that it often fell into a strange kind of melodrama. The beauty of Bicycle Thieves was that it showed how an event that would be a far lesser event to privileged people such as myself - the stealing of a bicycle - could become an immense and tragic event in a society of crippling poverty.
