Aux yeux des vivants

Whilst the plot and characters are thinly drawn, there is a nostalgic passion for American horror of the 70s & 80s that emanates fiercely. The atmosphere, aesthetics and themes of horror classics like Texas Chainsaw, Halloween, Hills Have Eyes are combined with touches of coming of age tales, The Goonies and Stand By Me. Feels like a chaotic love letter from the filmmakers to movies of their childhood. Second half is batshit insane in the delightful way. Could've been more meta, but great fun.

Passes the time.

A loving tribute and a raised middle finger to the classic American slasher movie, except without the sense of exceptionalism and fair play that those movies take for granted. Like It meets Martyrs.
