Austenland puts Jerusha Hess at the forefront instead of her husband Jared. I found this Jane Austen inspired love story to be cute and funny at times. The acting is great. There are so many strong actors in this movie. Jennifer Cooliage is a national treasure. She was really funny throughout this movie. I like the few times that we got to see some art that seems very Hess-like. It transported me back to Napoleon Dynamite. I enjoyed the love triangle of this movie and was surprised by it too.

I was cautious at first, but pleasantly surprised. My pa liked it, and it is not his type of movies. For a rom-com, it was original, with unexpected bits as well. Still some stereotyped parts, but the unusual setting makes it more forgivable.

Cute and pretty funny romantic comedy about Jane Austen fandom.

This is my guilty pleasure movie of all time. As a thirtysomething huge Austen fan, I find myself more than relating to our protagonist and only sighfully wishing I could enjoy a romantic escape like her. Seriously, I'm fangirling so badly that I couldn't give this movie any sort of intelligent review.

Austenland is takes interesting look at reality and the nature of fandom. Okay, the film isn't nearly that deep but it is a fun RomCom. It pays homage to Austen's work nicely, and Russell is adorable. Field and McKenzie do well in their roles, King is way over the top, Callis is underused and Coolidge shows a lack of range. A weak script doesn't help, but the under-the-breath insults are great and there are a few lines that had me laughing out loud. Enjoyable on the whole.

It's interesting to me that Pride and Prejudice continues to capture the imagination of all manner of writers and filmmakers. But this has to be the most hare-brained by-product to come along yet. Such lousy plotting and crappy writing. JJ Feild is the only good thing in this. Even the fabulous Jennifer Coolidge is hobbled completely by the awful writing/directing.

enjoyable (because of the idea/writing of the novel I guess)

really bad. really really bad. i felt bad for the actors involved (minus the obnoxiously annoying coolidge who felt right at home in this thing) because they're all talented in their own right. the script was just a cheap knockoff of "austen" tropes by someone who probably hasn't even read any of the books. it wasn't offensive or enraging, just really really bland and badly made. visually nice to look at, of course, but ultimately a really dumb film that insults the intelligence of its audience.

Definitely not a movie for everyone. Mostly targeted at Jane Austen fans with a heavy nod to those who like, love, or can tolerate romantic comedies (side note: pretty sure it'll annoy some Austen fans as well so be warned). If neither are your thing, give it a pass. I'd call this film a guilty pleasure.

It was nice, if a bit forgettable. I don't know Jane Austen, but my wife said the story was clever in its adaptation of her works. I couldn't get over my disbelief at a business ever treating their customers as badly as Austenland does, even if they only bought the "bronze package" and not a "platinum" one, but I saw at the end that this was part of the adaptation as well.

By George this film was grand, chaps! I loved this movie directed by Jerusha Hess who did a little film called Napoleon Dynamite. Two things were in this movie that I positively enjoy. Jane Austen Regency-era movies and comedy. I had a ton of laughs and thought Keri Russell was brilliant...

What you thought was a sweet, cute fantasy becomes a rather complex mystery with as many layers and possibilities as a well-crafted whodunnit. I experienced a delicious enjoyment observing the characters in the story while trying to figure out if what I was seeing was real or fabricated. The viewer is not solving along with a character in the story; rather, the mystery is the viewer's alone, the characters on the screen just being themselves while you puzzle over what's real and what's not.

Needed a much better script, but quite enjoyable anyway for 'The Jane Austen Dork Club' (maybe) or those slightly obsessed about Keri.R. *Preview*: #14#, popcorn, story, Keri.R!/7-4.

Very naive comedy where you'll immediately guess how to story goes. That said, it's kind of comforting that they still make films like these - even if they're not for me.

Oddball period drama/fish-out-of-water comedy combo. A fun cast, often amusing, sometimes ill-judged.
