One of the great taboo-smashers of the late '60s, Nerosubianco (aka Black on White) will stun anyone expecting a standard softcore European sex flick. Brace yourself for a whirlwind trip with a married woman (Sanders) whose journey through the psychedelic Italian youth scene awakens her to the carnal offerings of an African-American man (Carter), all set to by a searing soundtrack by Freedom, a tripped-out group formed from the remnants of Procol Harum. Nearly plotless and often improvised. (silentmovietheatre.com)

‘The Artful Penetration of Barbara’. The laying bare of the entanglement of sex and politics with violence that reached a crescendo in the late 1960s is the focus for Brass here, and he does so in a Godardian way (a still image from ‘La Chinoise’ even makes a very brief appearance) which is understandable considering that Godard was a key initiator of exploring these themes in cinema as pop art. Or maybe it’s just a feature length music video for Procul Harem 2.0 (aka Freedom).

The completely unselfconscious pretentiousness of the material unfortunately distracts from the otherwise actually fairly impressive technical aspects, which remind me of a much less disciplined Roeg and not much else i can think of. Either way it's still better than other like-minded '60s silliness like Jodorowsky or Makavejev. I can't help but wonder if it had been filmed in Czech people would hail it as an experimental masterpiece of it's time.
