Perhaps Sylvain Chomet better stick to directing animation.

Never underestimate the power of memory and of doing almost anything to 'activate' this memory to realise your being (Dasein). Chomet manages here to fall the right side of the line that divides whimsy from genuine revelation (this seems to be a constant challenge for French film makers of the last 30 or so years). Guillaume Gouix as Paul is a French version of Elijah Wood, which works well to serve Chomet's story.
