I admire its ambition, but it's undeniably a mess - though not an unenjoyable one. Since Disney seems to be in the live-action remake business right now, why not take another crack at this one?

I can't put my finger on it, but something was missing. The characters were way too simple, I could smell the plot 'twist' from a mile away, and there just wasn't enough time for the story to unfold. But all that holds true for many other animated movies too, so I guess what it comes down to is that this one simply failed to intrigue me. Whether Atlantis rises or falls, I really couldn't care less.

Disney has traditionally been great at shorter, more condensed movies, which makes it weird to me that this felt rushed and incomplete. I don't know if it was the large character ensemble that didn't have enough screentime, or the twists they attempted to layer on top of the cliched plot, but things definitely could have been better. Not that it's bad; it's certainly capable of entertaining, it's just not among Disney's best.

I didn't think it was too bad. It isn't the strongest Disney movie narrative speaking, and I could see why so many probably don't like the characters, but I thought it was just creative enough and just well paced and interesting enough to hold my interest. I loved the animation and sense of humor and I even enjoyed most of the characters and voice work. I appreciate Disney trying something different and pretty adult for once, even if it doesn't completely come together. Very fun!

Steampunk underwater adventure would have been great. I think this was too ambitious without fleshing out the other characters. The villain was telegraphed from the beginning. I don't mind the animation style but the CG seemed obvious. Fav scene: meeting the funder in the basement with the aquarium and the fish and the submarine model.

I think this merits a lot more praise than it got. Especially since it's head and shoulders above much of what Disney released afterwards (Bolt, Meet the Robinsons, etc). I think it's beautiful, and I still do after 10 years.

Expressive animation brings forth a bevy of intense action sequences to go with excellent bits of humour (lots of quirky characters and quippy dialogue) overtop some beautiful backgrounds. Narratively, the adventure to Atlantis feels too brief but the scenes there are spiced up by character twists and hints of a tasteful romance (see “I have some questions for you!” x2). Its appreciable anti-colonialist thrust does well to mostly avoid a white saviour arc (Kida’s the clear hero of the city).

I loved the animation style and all the different character designs. While some of the characters are underused, this is a very enjoyable adventure movie. This is one Disney that isn't aimed so much at the whole family, but will mostly appeal to boys around the age of 10

Mostly unlikeable leads with a strong supporting cast of interesting Disney archetypes. It compares fairly well to the non-Disney animated fare that was coming out at the same time, without achieving any sort of special status, at the same time, as a Disney movie.

The 90's found Disney releasing classic after classic like clockwork, so much so that people had forgotten that Disney ever made a wrong step. By the time the 00's came around, the hot streak was over, releases were hit and miss like a flashlight you have to shake intermittently because something's busted. Fortunately, even as a comparative dud, "Atlantis" is still a pretty decent, if forgettable, kid's movie.

When I first saw previews for this film I was genuinely excited. Alas, the final product is a puddle of puke. There are some decent moments I suppose, but most of the characters are horrible except for the one voiced by Jim Varney and the explosives expert guy. I wanted to mutilate the mole fellow. Pretty poorly written, too.

Seems to me a largely underrated and divergent little Disney gem. It sticks out from the pack. A non-musical, with a uniquely beautiful art style, a not-insignificant body count, and... it's unexpectedly sexy? The ensemble of characters are so amusing, and even if it amounts to little more than a glancing blow, I appreciate the disparaging of imperialists who pillage culture.

Notable for having what surely must be the highest death count in a Disney film, some of the animation was great and reminded me of the Hellboy comics. This is ruined by all the characters (except for the chain smoking radio operator woman) being terrible and the plot being extemely predictable.

Middling Disney effort seems like a placeholder rather than anything innovative or memorable – while its animation is worthy of its praise, there’s nothing here that tops THE LION KING’s grace and fluidity; ditto the denouement action set-piece which is impressively mounted, but can’t outdo peak Disney efforts from the past. Still a reasonably serviceable adventure yarn (which would have likely been entirely forgotten had it been live-action) with a distinguished (and sparky) voice cast.

The lore and dry humour might cause younger kids to lose interest, and it might have worked better as an Indiana Jones style live action or something. But it's unique enough in spite of a classic plot, with good visuals, music, and a roster of character surprisingly large for a Disney movie. You can see they put effort in it, even in the unusual character designs. A kid reading Jules Verne might like it more.

I vividly recall seeing Moana in theatres because it was so great. I still think Moana is an underrated gem from Disney's animation studio. I urged everyone to see it. And I remember my friend went to see it, partially based on my gushing, and he said it was beautiful but otherwise ordinary. And while I think that's nonsense, I think I know what he meant now. It's how I feel about Atlantis -- a breathtaking visual artwork that feels rushed and hollow. At least the animators should be proud.

This film is ultimately let down by its poor characters and bad voice acting, there are no likeable characters expect Milo and Kida, and the voice acting is, very spotty; Completely unconvincing and unenthusiastic voice actors There are some positives of course. The plot is very interesting, the animation is impressive, a perfect mix of 3D and 2D animation, with great colours, and a handful of funny moments, but I expected more.

I liked it, a very interesting setting and the ideas are really good. I liked the characters and the humour as well as the unique visual style. Quite eventful, but perhaps everything goes a bit too fast and a longer running time would have allowed for everything to be a bit more fleshed out. Still, I'd say it's worth seeing if you like adventures.

Atlantis doesn't quite hold up to the lofty greats in the Disney canon. However it is one of the few times at this point they were trying to do something different. Fun characters that don't feel like they get enough time to shine. The plot is decent with some good twist, but it gets rushed through so fast that the twist seem muddled or come out of left field. We needed more time in Atlantis, just exploring the city before shit hit the fan. Even 15 more minutes would have benefited this movie 3 or 5 more points

It's okay! The fact that every character was animated by a different team is interesting, but leads to occasional weirdness where two characters' movements don't quite gel, and I think it's the reason a lot of motion seems floaty relative to backgrounds. The art direction is fantastic, though, and while the plot goes from zero to climax incredibly fast, it's a fine adventure movie for kids. Did I mention that the art direction is fantastic? It's like everything was pulled straight from a pulp.

Michael J. Fox voices the main character and he's as charming as ever. An animated film about Atlantis is a good idea, and you can tell the story's there (partly thanks to Joss Whedon), but the end product is a bit lacklustre. It was a bit too cliché, following too many Disney conventions (especially from Pocahontas (1995)) and though some of the animation looked nice, most of the characters fell flat for me.

This is the sort of movie that really rides on spectacle. While the plot wasn't the freshest thing, I think it could have worked if it were live-action. As is, it doesn't have the level of detail to really suck you in, especially when you're looking at a world PAST its prime. It's possible; think Miyazaki. Still, good to see Disney step out of their comfort zone a little.

The concept of this film is a bit unbelievable, the story is oriented toward a narrow and awkward group of preteen girls and boys, and doesn't quite have what it takes to peg them down. There are too many characters to make any of them especially enjoyable, the flow of the film goes from a guy finding an amazing new world to a perfect romance story. It feels much like Pocahontas by the very end. The only good qualities are the occasional jokes and the animation.
