At Any Price

A Farma (a farm drama) that is great at times and others it is like watching corn grow. You get pretty into the story with Quaid's shady dealings and Efron's car racing. Then people start sleeping with others and *spoiler* someone gets killed *end spoiler* and the movie just unravels. I quickly lost interest and just kept hoping that Maika Monroe would come back on screen. The movie trailer makes this film look a lot more attractive and interesting. It's a real shame, I had high hopes on this.

This is a slow film, with a disappointing ending.

What a strange film. Something like a Douglas Sirk melodrama, with Dennis Quaid playing the bizarre patriarch and Efron as the sub-James Dean ruffian. I'm still not sure whether it's a disaster or a breath of fresh air.

This movie seems to teach that if you are wealthy there are no consequences for your actions. Interesting, (SPOILER ALERT) but the movie just ends with no resolution.

Quaid plays a big fish in the Iowa farming scene, and has the ego to prove that he knows it. The characters start out pretty unlikable, but as the film goes on it becomes much more layered and ends up a pretty effective character drama with strong direction and performances.

Initially a solid drama, but it inexplicably devolves into a soapy mess. Bahrani, who has more than proved himself with his last two films, seems to be on less sure footing here, being unable to satisfactorily merge the elements of his story.
