The Wachowski's unsuccessfully asked to have their names taken off the film's script which brings their tally to one excellent film, one really good film, this mediocre action blitz, the love it or hate it V for Vendetta, two equally terrible Matrix sequels, a tv color test called Speed Racer, and a movie with twice as many Tom Hanks' in it then there were Meg Ryans in that one Tom Hanks movie.

Another in the series of more ambitious films Stallone turned to in the mid-90s, this features another of his less cocky, more morose portraits of middle-aged malaise; unfortunately Banderas (and Donner) seem to think it should be a flamboyant actioner, despite the story and screenplay not really supporting this. This means Stallone's performance, while accomplished, becomes an anchor on the film rather than an asset. Some relatively engaging action scenes quicken the pulse intermittently.

Nice action movie with 3 great actors. Banderas and Stallone were both good as hitman. Especially the first hour was full of action and was excellent for me.

Assassins makes a serious tactical error: staging endless shoot outs with silencers is not particularly exciting. Not only does this decision remove the simple audio-visceral pleasures of onscreen gun play, the strangely subdued mood slows the film to a crawl, suggesting that Donner picked the wrong tools for the job. It's an overblown studio film that should have been a minimalist piece. Sly and Banderas' rivalry is compelling, but the writing is bad and the end twist is predictable and dumb.

Could have been better, but I've seen a lot worse. Liked the concept and they really made a good actionmovie. Nothing more, nothing less.

I've seen worse silly action movies. Stallone and Banderas actually work well together. But far from good.

This movie is about forty-five minutes too long. The audience came for the action and a twisted plot, not the scene-chewing between Stallone and Banderas (both of whom very sensibly treat this film as a comedy). It is fantasy, through and through, which is why we are cheering for larcenous hit men instead of condemning them, but it becomes too unbelievable and too overblown at some points. If I had not seen it, it would be the perfect movie for a slow afternoon but I do not want to see it again.

Viewed March 13, 2022. full of the kinds of silly stuff that makes me like these 90s action movies — for example, the way the assassins use computers to communicate, or the hilarious dedication to silencers that makes every gunfight in this feel like a paintball game — and Donner’s spry direction gives it a great sense of momentum. It opens with a half-hour of pure action, and doesn’t really let up from there.

Robert Rath (Sylvester Stallone) is the best hitman out there, but he wants to quit. Miguel Bain (Antonio Banderas), on the other hand, a passionate killer, wants to become the numero uno of his shadowy profession by eliminating Rath. Bain confronts Rath, who is helped by hacker Electra (Julianne Moore).

Mostly enjoyable tête-à-tête flick with Banderas outshining Stallone in the acting department. The film has its flaws, but nothing too bad.

It's basically John Woo's The Killer, but really really boring. Except of Banderas chewing ALL of the scenery avaiable.

Donner claims that the film may have worked better if Stallone and Banderas had their roles swapped - I wonder if he is right. Banderas' acting is unbridled and spirals out of control, with the amusing factor of his role soon wears out and gets rather tiring. Stallone is Stallone or in other words bland and uninspired. The redeeming factor of the film is Julianne Moore who is level-headed and more or less offers her usual quality performance, while adding a sexy and feminine element to the film.

Stallone and Banderas are the titular assassins in this crime film. They are set on Julianna Moore, a super hacker, who is the mark they are meant to kill. The two men must fight to see who can get to the mark first. I found the movie a little too long. There were points where I felt like they could have cut 10 minutes or so and the film would have been none the worse. The casting of the movie was great. This is Banderas at his best; he really shows that he goes all in on this role.

Assassins is one of the longest, dopiest and most boring action films of Sly's career. Banderas is equally fun and annoying, but his risky performance doesn't pay off when every scene in this movie is so darned stupid.

Assassins is regarded by many as one of Sylvester Stallone's worst films. And although the 90's didn't treat Sly well, this was definitely one of his better films. Antonio Banderas gives an incredibly eccentric and over the top performance. But surprisingly he carries the film well and I enjoyed him alongside Sly. And it's worth a watch for the shoot outs alone. It's by no means Director Richard Donner's finest work and the Wachowski's writing is much to be desired. Otherwise it's half decent.

I was suprised the amount of violence of this Stallone movie wasn't as overwhelmingly disturbing as in his other movies (his short dialogs however were still unimaginative), Banderas role was a bit better, and Moore's too. I was amused by the bits of tech-stuff, they didn't overdo it. This movie doesn't exercise any brain cells, but the bits of entertainment prevented it from being a waste of time.

Save yourself from how terrible this movie is. The only reason ever to see it is if you know how ridiculous it is, and you can't resist. You will be sorry though. Stallone and Banderes are both surprisingly bad in this, and the plot is only a bunch of reasons to have shootouts. Total crap!
