Que mal rollo. The poster is a spoiler. It's a well done, carefully realistic [and real life?] 'Straw Dogs' story, solidly built on a fine group of well observed actors. Belongs on the "very good but so unbearable to watch" bin.

"Straw Dogs" vibes with a different motivation. Not as strong, but still impressive. The movie started very promising with edgy one hour, but it did drag here and there as it carried on. Once you figure out what is going to happen, it felt like something was missing to make this a masterpiece. Don't know what it is.

Has a bit of a Straw Dogs vibe for most of its running time, and does quite a number on the viewer's nerves, in a realistic fashion. But then, the fact that it's based on a true story should prepare you for its departures from fictive cinema's narratological dictates. It's a grim and unsatisfying movie and also very good, with an effective lead cast.

Ménochet is starting to become one of my many favorite French actors. He is able to radiate so much without dialog, just by his imposing body and speaking eyes. A harrowing tale which themes (anti intellectualism, the colonization of countryside by the eco-aware, the degradation of anything outside a city, female empowerment) feel very current but aside from that it's a very good thriller, especially in the first hour

A simple, quiet, confident movie that occasionally explodes with conflict and tension.

tension buildup at it's finest, with great characters and nail biting scenes... titán, please get back here!

Less "lets you decide what it's positions are" and more "doesn't have much to say." When it's tense it sparks some interest, but that is for only about 45 minutes in the first hour. Deflates shortly thereafter and then a massive narrative ellipsis kills any hope of regaining that interest dead. Characters aren't engaging enough to care what happens to them.

Intense film with a foreboding sense of menace. Things build up to an expected climax but unexpectedly carries on to explore what happened next.

As a thriller it works, very tense and well-paced. Character building could have been more nuanced, some dialogues are very on the nose and literal. The opening is fantastic.

Does a good job updating the concept of films like "Straw Dogs" to contemporary Europe, adding the hostility against foreigners - here towards a French couple that moves to a Spanish village. It takes its time to build tension; especially Luis Zahera's character gets very intimidating. It also provides at least one serious curveball that I appreciated, but felt that it didn't quite take advantage of. The film is also way too long for the material, as if to underline that it is not a genre film.
