Indian noir via Orwell's "Shooting An Elephant" and "A Hanging?" An acerbic dissection of caste in modern India; frankly, a breath of fresh air from the bullshit the national screens project 24/7/365 at home and abroad. Two flaws: Brahman, foreign hero (see Kaala for a potential alternative narrative) and an excruciatingly overwrought score. But mandatory for anyone who wants to understand India, Indian cinema, and caste.
