Through the "Farewell" of Mahler's Song of the Earth, the "Lady of the Beasts" section of Pavese's Dialogues with Leuco (on Endymion's lost love for and by Artemis), and Schütz's Mit dem Amphion zwar ("My heart is lament, my fife is plague, and hot streams of tears now flow"), Straub seems to be lamenting the loss of his longtime collaborator in a fittingly mournful manner.

An extension of the Quei Loro Incontri experience, only this time Straub narrows the focus to one extended exchange between two men. The dialogue isn't quite as captivating as it is in that film, and the absence of Huillet is especially felt in the final section, which is dominated by excessively long shots of nature, but it should please admirers of S/H's Pavese adaptations, even if it doesn't scale their previous heights.
