The Rob Schneider Project- day 19. A baffling day at the H.U.R.R.S. labs as we were forced to study this boring, racially confused piece of nonsense. When Rob briefly appeared (as himself) it once more felt like relief to us. Unnerving. And all the time, a shady figure was watching us from the observation lounge above. Our mysterious Project Leader? The team left in relatively good spirits, chuckling about that Arnie cameo. Not me. I know which movie will be next... Schneider-annoyance factor: 3

It's pretty goofy-in a cringe-y way sometimes (the plot and the green screens are pretty hard to take seriously), but mostly it's just a lot of fun, with humour that comes often and is often quite clever (see the accidental artwork arising from the altercation) and an adventure that brings with it plenty of cool kung fu action and bumbling side characters. It wasn't at the forefront obviously, but there were hints of good character development for Coogan's progressive yet uptight scientist too.

Schneider quest, film 19: Hard to find the words to describe how I felt while watching this movie. Mostly anger, mostly depression. What we found out though, is that Jackie Chan looks like a Chinese Rob Schneider. Excitement was felt everytime Jackie Chan was on screen, but quickly faded when we realized it WAS.. Jackie Chan. 10 points to Arnie cameo.

Walt Disney. What. the. fuck? Honestly, was it really necessary to completely destroy Jules Verne. Jules fucking Verne? Not the worst movie of all time, and it has Arnold in it acting hilarious, so there are some perks.

Watched the older one recently. This was about as bad as I remembered. For some reason I thought they made a stop in Hong Kong because of Jackie Chan, but maybe I got it mixed up with the book. Chan's usually bad in his English films since for some reason people want him to act. De France was unnecessary but I suppose they couldn't do the Indian princess anymore. Coogan felt like a cheap Alan Rickman. Best compliment is that they didn't rehash the old film's stops. Fav scene: Arnie.

Turkish Arnold aside (though his hair is hilarious), the film is innocent, adventurous fun; creative fight choreography and Lau Xing's mother well make up for its cheap sets and erratic pace.

I was going to give this movie a really bad score, but I have to say a short Schwarzenegger scene saved the movie. (Really, this was pretty torture adaptation and I'm not a big fan of Anonymous ADHDicks.)

This is a film that tries to distract the viewer from its lack of a clear protagonist and slight racism with a litany of cameos so that the audience can blurt out every ten minutes or so, "Hey look, it's John Cleese!"

Not only is this more cruelty towards Jackie Chan, they also got Steve Coogan involved in this tripe. But the biggest crime of all, is their lazy, awful portrayal of Wong Fei Hong as pyjama wearing, pyjama wearing farmer as played by Sammo Hung (!).

The walking definition of “they don’t make ‘em like they used to”: has its share of good lines and inspired silliness (especially during Schwarzenegger’s segment), but lacks the sense of huge scale epic that the Todd version had in spades, substituting a curiously pinched (and cheap looking) world design, hampered by some very ugly CGI renderings of the various global locations that Coogan and Chan encounter, and the stars’ duelling sensibilities give the film an awkward, stuttering quality.

Viewed March 20, 2021. One of Jackie's more effective American movies. The sequence set in France is pretty delightful and there's a cameo from Sammo Hung.

It's not great, but it's a lot of fun seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger, John Cleese, and Kathy Bates pop up for a scene. Chan and Broadbent are enjoyable and I really like Coogan.

This adaptation of Vern's novel deviates in a ton of ways. So for fans of the original work this movie is going to be a let down. However its adventurous tone, hilarious cameos, and sense of humor may win you over. If not Jackie Chan surely will.

Of course they'd adapt the book with more appeal to it.
It makes Jules Verne seem more nuts, despite some of the inventions made in this film seem like something Verne would actually come up with

It's cute and all, very fun details in the film. It's just that when it all came together it failed to really entertain me. I'll have to admit I too think that despite this film makers their good efforts, this film just fails to entertain enough to be a hit for me, it is indeed a flop for jackie chan I think.
Go watch Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Knights instead, very much alike films but those I really found enjoyable and this one I found meh.

Walden Media, the company responsible for producing this film, has made a big deal about its desire to "create responsible entertainment ... that conveys positive values," meant to be enjoyed by the whole family. Around the World in 80 Days lives up to that mission statement at times, but not all of the time. It had the potential to be one of the year's foremost films for the whole family. But it didn't use it fully, or faithfully. (pluggedin.com)

I would never have chosen to watch this film and yet it did have a fair bit of entertainment value. There were some good effects throughout the film and of course some good Martial Arts choreography from Jackie Chan, in fact even the usually irritating Steve Coogan did a good job - a good adventure!
