Arabian Nights

Arabian Nights (1942) was a big fantasy splash in 1942 earning 4 Oscar nominations for it's artsy qualities. Well, it must have been that, for it was clearly not the writing. The plot is pretty bad and it's more it's vulgar aspects and added "2-reel" style comedy which makes it fun. Does pick up on action at the end, but there is no disguising that this pure hokum. But some like that too.

Arabian niiightttssss.... this ended up being more of a comedy than the swords and sandals and fantasy I envisioned. There's nothing particularly offensive about it. The type of movie you'd watch once if you are interested in the stars, then forget about it instantly. I have a soft spot for these old culturally-inaccurate adventure films. Fav scenes: slave auction with one of the girls driving up her own price; genie fake-out; Sabu swimming in the pool in the harem.

Technicolor camp classic. Great fun when you're in the mood. Related to The Arabian Nights in name only, don't expect anything other than pure Hollywood hokum.
