A shout back to the Raimi Spiderman movies I loved so much - it's joyously cheesy, a celebration of the weird science sub-genere that tends to get underplayed in super hero movies. The movie is packed full of more than capable actors: Paul Rudd does his usual underplayed schtick and it's a perfect fit for balancing such gloriously over-the-top material, Michael Douglas stole my attention in every scene, and Evangeline Lilly seems like some smart casting that will hopefully pay off in the future.

The problem with Ant-Man is you've already seen Ant-Man and you're going to see Ant-Man again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again until one of them finally flop and we can stop. I think my favourite part was watching this 400lb man experience a D-Box seat. Hypnotic as hell. I've already claimed "Aunt-Man"

I love the idea of a Marvel heist movie. The ants and technology of the suit are fun and make a nice fit into the MCU. The rest is strictly by the numbers Marvel formula with bland to stereotypical characters, particularly the villain, a predictable plot, but just enough good jokes and action. Why oh why oh why didn't they let Edgar Wright keep creative control?! Then this small time story really could have been huge!

This has plenty of decent well-handled action and some good ideas, but it is perhaps hampered by a bit too much family drama. Rudd is a likeable lead, and this fits in nicely with the three thousand other Marvel films as well as having a bit of charm to call its own. Some of the ant action might push your suspension of disbelief, but the miniature scenes are very effective, as is weird young Michael Douglas. Wonder what Edgar Wright's effort would have looked like?

If Bugs Life is an olive, Batman is a miniature blue plastic pirate saber, and Honey I Shrunk the Kids is a chipped glass with dishwasher spots, then Ant-Man is a martini from a Reno truck stop--stirred, not shaken.

Lots of fun. Fight scenes are awesome to watch. Edgar Wright left the project before its completion, but you can see his fingerprints everywhere. The absurdity of the situations, the "genre" movie (it is mostly a robbery flick, not a superhero one), some of the dialogs. I'd love to see ant-man in different secnarios and I can only imagine what the movie would look if Wright stayed to the end.

It's very fun, and is definitely a nice step away from the same old shit that is a part of every other MCU movie. That's not to say it doesn't have a smart ass hero who has to work through emotional issues to save the day, it's just that a city isn't exploding around him as he does it.

What sets Ant-Man apart is its unique tone. From 2014 on Marvel has done a really good job of making each film's tone distinct, and this continues with Ant-Man. It feels less like a superhero film and more like a heist comedy, allowing Paul Rudd to flex his comedic muscles quite a bit. The way Peyton Reed crafts the film's shrunken sequences puts a very unique mark on this Marvel film that will allow it to stand apart from the rest of their body of work.

The blu-ray should be retitled, "Blooper Reel: The Extra Feature" in an effort to promote the gold that I'm sure Paul Rudd left on the cutting room floor. He felt hampered by the plot. The plot felt hampered by Paul Rudd. Conundrum. Entertaining enough, pretty fun in a lighthearted way, and aided tremendously by the fact that it's almost always a heist film. The villain should've been an anteater and looked exactly like Snuffleupagus, or is that too Labrynth?

I should've been more annoyed at its extremely predictable structure, stock villain, pushing of those ever important Family Values and the consequence-free resolution of all major issues in the final minutes. But dangit, all in all this was rather enjoyable superhero fare. Rudd is perfectly cast, Pym's not a total joke, the shrinking was fun and the low stakes were pretty welcome. I liked the links to the general MCU and I'm down for visiting the Microverse in the inevitable sequel.

Pretty clever combination of Spiderman, Avenger and MacGyver, but no real hook to the story and a so so meatless ending. Nice way to get the star more face time instead of using the inside-the-helmet lighting a la Ironman, which would keep the wearer from seeing anything besides his reflection. Impressive new video tech de-aged Michael Douglas 30 years in the opening scene. Every aging A-lister in Hollywood is going to want to be using that--full length. The Quantum Realm is pretty cool.

Made me want to revisit 'Honey, I Shrunk the Kids'. Unfortunately, Peyton's film lacks the edginess one suspects Edgar Wright would have been able to inject, had he directed. But who knows, the so-traditional-it-almost-hurts script is pretty bad. Michael Peña did make me crack a smile here and there, though.

Rudd handled this much better than I thought he would. It's not great but the smaller scale is refreshing from the end of the world stuff. It's formulaic and a bit schlocky but it's better than both the Thor films and the first Captain America.

It's a step back from the previous two movies, especially Guardians, and it's smaller (HA THE PUNS, OMG) in scale, but after a slow and shaky start, it becomes really funny and the action takes advantage of the big/small dynamic in order to craft some of the better fight scenes in the MCU. Plus, Paul Rudd is charming as fuck.

Ant-Man is a (fittingly) small-scale movie that fits well into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's funny, it's breezy, it has decent action, and that's about it. Is it enjoyable? Yes. Will it be one of the more easily forgettable movies in this franchise? Probably. There's not a lot to it and it has more than a few bugs in the system. It's easy to get caught up in the moment with Ant-Man, only beginning to realize its shortcomings after it's concluded.

With the previous movies, Marvel has adopted the mantra "bigger is better," but "Ant-man" proves that you can get pretty damn small but pack a big punch, pun intended. I couldn't help but feel that this is a different breed, apart from other Marvel movies, Lang isn't rich, he doesn't have superpowers, and he isn't a god, he's an ex-con in a suit that makes him tiny. I can pin a lot of the charm on an awesomely cast Rudd, but Marvel has a hot streak with picking the right guy for the job.

An apt title would be 'Bland-Man', but fair game to Reed and the gang: They know they're in the cheap seats on the Marvel train, and they try to have fun with the trip. 'Ant-Man' was never more than the intermission entertainment between the main events and it doesn't try to be, but there are some nice small touches to enjoy, especially the location of the boss fight. To put it metaphorically this is one of the funnier guys you'll meet in mediocre town.

Rollicking, fast-paced and funny, Ant-Man is IMO one of Marvel's coolest superheroes and was most enjoyable. Paul Rudd was superbly cast in the superhero role, and milks his part for all it's worth. My only question is what the sequel will be like, since the ending obviously sets the stage for the next Ant-Man film.

Ant-Man is very self-aware...and the film is better off for it. Rudd is perfectly cast as the titular character, allowing the film to have a light, warm tone (needed after Age of Ultron) while being consistently funny. There are also plenty of tie-ins to the greater MCU, which is expected at this point, but luckily they come across more organically. Overall, it's fun, it's silly...and it knows it.

It's alright. It doesn't aim for any better than that so goal achieved I guess. Normally the filler episode is confined to TV but this feels more like a signpost on the way to Captain America Civil War. I will come back for the sequel, hopefully that will take some risks and tell a story. Honestly, this isn't bad, it just won't stick with you. Ant-Man is quite possibly the most goofy and absurd film we've seen from the MCU, and I think that's why I like this so much. This really caters to Rudd's strengths as a comedian, and his sub plot with his daughter makes him even more likable. The cinematography and creative use of using his abilities to this, was really cool. I'm afraid this will get lost in the shuffle of the MCU because it's smaller scale, but this will always be one of my favorites from the MCU.

The estranged father-daughter duo is a little too brooding at times; thankfully, Rudd's likeably lighthearted Scott and his buds (Pena's excitable yet dim Luis steals every scene he's in) provide enough ant-ics to break up the predictable melodrama, not to mention keep the standard superhero plot (cue the power-hungry villain) in check. The shrinking premise, meanwhile, adds a cool element to the action and even briefly probes questions of time and space (see Scott's sub-nuclear fall).

Crazy-stupid in principle, fine in execution. Looks like Marvel's in the process of perfecting this formula. "Ant-Man" shows how far you can get with some superb casting and a smart script. There's a good pace and a lot of fail-proof humor. The villain is detestable, the hero likable - like they should. All this is backed by rock solid visuals. It can feel a bit formulaic at times but ultimately wins you over. And Micheal Douglas steals every scene he's in.

What should have been an over-the-top and wacky action film is actually Marvel's safest movie yet. Every decision seems to have been made to avoid risk: the basic plot structure is a retread of the first Iron Man film, the heist framing is completely toned-down, and the humor (where the movie should have excelled) basically boils down to a few running jokes that feel like first draft filler. The movie is far too bland, showing Marvel clearly doesn't have any faith in their smaller properties.

Yet another Marvel movie, but less POW and KABOOM, and more self-mockery. A refreshing deviation from the usual Marvel formula, and full of imaginative use of the miniature premise (especially in the climatic battle confined within a little girl's room) but also pretty unevenly paced with some clunky forced exposition heavy scenes taking up a lot of the movie's first half. On a side note: Michael Douglas has gotten really old all of the sudden! Which of cause make the de-aging effects in the prologue even more impressive.

Somewhat unique, but standard fare when it comes to Marvel movies these days. The use of comic characters is weird (Pym is an old man in this movie likely to avoid the wife beater aspect of his character) and a lot of actors are completely original characters. Because of this, you could literally attach a cliche to everyone such as "insensitive minority comic relief" or "angsty bitch who hates then falls in love with the protag." The fight scenes were average, though the Falcon fight was cool.

The thing that makes it work is that it (and pardon the excruciating puniness, but I can't think of a better way to phrase it) keeps it small. Many MCU tropes are present - for better and for worse - but it's about stopping a corrupt military scientist from selling a weapon, not, like, STOPPING A FLOATING ISLAND FROM DESTROYING THE WHOLE WORLD RIGHT FUCKING NOW or STOPPING HELICARRIERS FROM NUKING THE WHOLE WORLD RIGHT FUCKING NOW, etc. Sometimes smaller stakes are better (see Spider-Man 1 & 2).

It mirrors the tone of Guardians of the Galaxy, never taking itself too seriously. Being a redemption story, it is amusing to watch Scott Lang tame literal ants to help in his endeavor, as well as mastering his peculiar superpower, which in the world of the Avengers feels like a welcome novelty. Some segments needlessly drags on, while others could have received more attention. The climax is satisfying, even though the action is subpar to what Marvel has already shown.

I enjoyed Ant-Man because it, like Guardians of the Galaxy, seemed like movies made outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I have grown quite tired of their desire to link everything together and Ant-Man's story of a guy who is tasked with putting on a magnificent suit by the suit's creator is an interesting story. I liked how for most of the movie there wasn't much super-hero action. It was predominantly a movie about a guy who is trying to do right by his daughter. Michael Pena is great.

This movie reminded me of Hardcastle and McCormick. But instead of a red Coyote car, the thief gets a red suit. Fun movie, and I can't wait for the next one.

Ant-Man is one of my favorite Marvel movies, and this is for many reasons. It's unique, stylistic (I guess the remaining part of Edgar Wright), and shows how movies like Guardians and Ant-Man can be effective.

The "Marvel Cinematic Universe" returns with their smallest story yet. After 11 movies the people at "Marvel Studios" should rightfully be worried about audiences becoming fatigued with their big blockbuster superhero action movies. Considering all that, they attempted to match their small sized hero with a more grounded and fresh feeling heist film. However underneath the patented "Marvel" fun is sadly just more of the same formulaic superhero movie stock we've seen before, now just ant-sized.

Rudd is great. The heist scenes and shrinking scenes are well done. But it's filled with bloat. Generic family drama, bad Avengers tie-ins (the first scene scene is terrible - references and bald exposition), a really long training montage, a main character (Hope Pym) who has nothing to do and a bland villain with no story of his own.

Another marvel film that i did not have faith in turns out to be very watchable. You know the drill here... its superhero action and sprinklings of comedy throughout the film set on top of a story where you are really pulling for the little guy... in this case, the very tiny guy.

Hey, I enjoyed it ok? Movie is pretty antertaining, the end fight is really cool ant has a very funny bit in it. Also pretty f-ant-astic to see a Gregg Turkington cameo. For that matter I give this movie 5 bags of popcorn. And 5 sugar cubes. And 2 cups of tea, but make it 6 sugar cubes to divide it evenly.

It was fun, I won't deny that. I have such a gripe with this movie and its a stupid gripe that I can't get over. Whenever anyone in the movie puts on their suit it happens in a single frame, they're in civilian clothes and then they go out of frame for half a second and they're in full battle armor. in a movie full of impossibilities, such as shrinking to subatomic levels, riding on the backs of insects, and having Paul Rudd seem heroic, the most unbelievable thing is putting on those suits.

Quite funny. But I can't get over the wonky physics. Sometimes shrunken things and people act like they have the same mass and momentum as in their normal state, sometimes they have the mass and momentum as an object that is naturally their shrunken or embiggenned sizes. This switch happens moment to moment, so the guy falls through floors because he has a mass of 100 kg and is tiny but lands on a record and barely moves it, then the needle flicks him a little and he flies through the air? Pfft!

Say it with me: I. Will. Never. Stop. Caping. For. Paul. Rudd. I actually did really like him in this movie though. He brought his goofy charm to the character of Scott Lang, which is also when the movie was at its best. When he breaks up the serious moments with laughs, it works. Some of the action sequences caught my eye (i.e. when Ant-Man swings on the end of a pistol), but overall, they were weaker than the performances by Rudd and Michael Pena (Luis).

If Wright were in control, we would have a much smarter superhero film instead of this mostly unfunny mess. Cliche story elements and cheesy one liners are staples of the superhero genre, but Ant-Man takes it a step further. There is absolutely nothing original in the plot, I just wished it would spare me its platitudes. The Falcon and Yellowjacket fights are well done and are the high points in the film. Rudd was charismatic and fit the role, I just hope the second installment fares better.

There altnerating perspectives from small scale to large scale helped make the visuals more enticing, and fine performances from Rudd, Douglas, Lilly and Stoll helped bring life to this cool action flick. It could have strayed away from conventional formula to help be a bit more engaging at times, relying heavily on genre cliches to tell the origin story. However, Ant-Man is full of enough interesting action scenes to help you forget the mistakes and really enjoy the little things it does right.

Really enjoyed this one. Michael Pena is absolutely hilarious, and the final fight scene had me bursting with laughter. I loved the pacing, and the movie didn't contain the levels of out of place, sometimes excessive tension from other Marvel films. Showcasing tiny environments is fantastic and I feel that they did it quite well. Rudd was adequate, and I'll admit I'm a big Douglas fan. Lilly was excellent and I await her performance in the next installment.

With the feel-good pizzazz of Innerspace and Honey I Shrunk the Kids --add a typical Marvel movie plot and you got Ant-Man. Michael Pena and Michael Douglas round out a nice supporting cast.

Good Marvel (Studios) movie. Wish more of their single superhero movies were like this. Or Iron Man 3. You know, good and funny.
Kudos to whoever pulled of youthaniz....erm no...what's the word...ah, rejuvenating Michael Douglas (and those other guys) in such a non-ridiculous looking fashion. :o
Pretty much the first time I've seen that.
This is easily the hottest Evangeline Lilly has ever been.
Also nice last shot. :D

I loved Ant-Man (2015) because it's the cutest superhero movie made thus far! How about that grueling battle with Thomas the Tank Engine!!! I admit I was skeptic at first, but yeah, this one wins you over....

Every Marvel movie is the same exact plot structure. This one on the surface feels weird and seems different but it's the same old shit. The Avengers stuff in here doesn't make sense, more of a "LOOK we are in this universe too!" Was too busy setting up future films to really be a competent movie (all Marvel movies do this. It's all about the money). Ant Man should've died at the end it was such a pussy ass comic book cop out that you expect. Michael Pena was great but very average all around

It's interesting to see Marvel's superheroes taken into a different genre (comedy heist?), but it doesn't necessarily make it above average, especially since this is hardly MCU's first loveable smart-ass, nor its best. Would have been great to see if Edgar Wright's stylings could have turned this into something great.

Marvel continues to surprise me by (usually) making movies that are entertaining in spite of every single thing a big-budget superhero film has working against it.
