"Alcohol, the cause of and the solution to all of life's problems" as the poet (Well, Homer Simpson) said, put to the test in this, the most Danish of Danish movies in a long while. Not the most groundbreaking drama, but I appreciate the none-binary view on the effects of getting hammered.

Can’t wait for the USA remake with Kevin James and BBQ. kinda weird that the directors kid diddling movie was more entertaining, there’s probably a million better ways to phrase that but I just sat through two hours of four middle aged guys drinking and listening to all the different sounds ice can make.

Seems to be on a quest to capture the essence of the national 'spirit' of Denmark via lengthy metaphor. Within the humour there is a gentle ease and confidence.

Approachable filmmaking that manages to balance exuberant, almost transcendent moments of joy; lovable stupid comedy and a sense of genuine melancholy. As with "The Hunt", the moral grayness of the piece invites analysis and interpretation. The cinematography is beautiful and intimate, comfortable with letting the great acting by Mikkelsen and co. do the heavy lifting. I had a lot of fun with this and the ending scene has stuck with me. Contender for scene of the year.

This is a really magnificent film, partly because it doesn't really go where you expect it to. In a really rare turn, it has a realistic perspective on alcohol, showing the highs and lows in realistic terms. It's not even as simple as "it's good in moderation", since it vividly depicts the joys of overindulging, while also showing just how badly that can turn on you.

The best drinking movie since The World's End. This is a great advertisement for alcohol. So many teachers are going to start going to school blasted now, thinking it will finally make their students think they're cool. I need 20 more minutes of Mads dancing like a maniac

Mads Mikkelsen is better suited as a medieval warrior or underworld hitman. The subject was interesting, but the movie drags a bit. It was even less enjoyable when they added his wife cheating and leaving him. For everything good, there is something that brings it down. Fun and depression are balance perhaps too well. I wanted to enjoy this movie, but by the end, I had grown tired of it. Worthwhile and entertaining, but it left me wanting.

I can't believe that such a ridiculous concept not only gets handled with such confidence and grace but also can be so artistic in its end form. Another Round says so much about alcoholism and addiction more broadly through a surprisingly fitting lens. I loved in particular how the film has so many seemingly light moments that are so brooding and disturbing in context. It's such a beautiful piece of art with such a dark warning, and that paradox is always attractive to me.

Mikkelsen brings remarkable depth to his characterless role, but the film around him is too convenient, too unfocused, to really mean anything. The good times are obvious (and often stretch believability), the bad times are sudden and overdramatic (but no less predictable), and its length feels stretched by its conflicting foci.

Not as good as Vinterberg’s “The Hunt”. The premise here is interesting, and the actors are more than capable. The issue is that it’s in an awkward middle ground of not being funny or dramatic enough to fit either genre. A twenty minute runtime cut could’ve also helped the pacing. The song at the end is way catchier than it needs to be. Worth seeing, but could’ve been more.

Despite a strong (somewhat relatable) opening scene, Another Round sacrifices the comedy in its 1st act to be a slow-burning character drama. Solid direction & acting can't alleviate the crawling pace, with occasional scenes carrying the film. The approach to alcohol is refreshing without being preachy. A BAC of 0.05% would be equivalent to 2 pints, while 1% would be near catatonic. 4 teachers (PE, Music, Psych & History) walk into a bar to attempt a scientific experiment; what could go wrong.

A smart movie about getting drunk. The four friends play off each other well and do a great job individually, but Mads is obviously the star. That guy is so convincing with whatever emotion he wants to hit, but he never overplays it. The ending succeeds in leaving the viewer with good feelings and optimism. I wouldn't say that I got really invested in everybody but there's a brain here and it tries to approach its subject with some amount of depth. It's a cool premise, ultimately, done well.

I really like how this film deals with alcohol and alcoholism. It's a fine line to walk: glorifying the heights of alcoholic excess while also honestly representing the dangers it poses. A weaker movie would have fallen into moralistic preaching but this film approaches the subject with the appropriate subtlety to keep things unpredictable and exciting.

A really tantalizing premise that builds into a wonderfully nuanced movie. It would have been so easy for this to go in a couple of different directions, but it eschewed simple or easy answers and instead gave us something much more honest. Beware, this is absolutely not an ode to functional alcoholism, or is it? WTF is the point of this film?! It fails in that it never successfully glorifies alcoholism, as it tries to do, in order to vilify it to death, as it does, periodically. The initial premise, ‘how history would be different without alcoholism,’ instead settles for a confused, flat, boring compromise. The righteous theme has not only been done to death, but it’s been done with far better focus and much better writing.

Great examination of lost youth, masculinity and the ease of using alcohol to mask those issues. There's this lingering melancholy throughout so much of the otherwise routine scenes of domesticity that tinges the film with a strange urgency to fix it. Alcohol as a solution goes predictably. I drank two beers during this movie. The combination of these two (the movie and booze) gave me some really good insights - based on observation-realization of my own past, on how powerful tool alcohol can be if used correctly, and how I've used it (subconsciously) over the years to manage many of diff situations. But make no mistakes, it can easily be the fall of a human being as it has this tendency to take over and slowly you become a shell of former self. Great movie with Hollywood ending.

Portraying reality is something of a lost art these days what with all the superhero movies, but Thomas Vinterberg is determined to stay the course. Here we have four high school teachers exploring the wonderful world of daytime drinking in an attempt to relieve the monotony of their lives and improve their relationships with the people around them. The results are perhaps unsurprising, and it can get a little cheesy at times, but the script and performances. especially Mikkelsen's, win the day

2. Entertaining, albeit overtly satanic in its message. The film's pace and energy are great, with on-point casting and acting. Some good imagery too. I was a bit lost on the overall message of the film and where it went in the 3rd act, although the level of entertainment remained more or less consistent. I did not like this. It's well made, but Vinterberg seems to be moralizing about alcohol and also naive and fetishizing at the same time? Of course, Mads' performance is great but I was just so bored of following some cliche stories about middle-aged middle-class men who are enabling each other and doing zero introspection. There is so much to love about this: while the film is ostensibly about a cultural practice (drinking), it's more deeply connected to what it means to be alive to the world and people around us. The booze is a mechanism, but one that is itself dangerous. And that danger mirrors the dangers of meaningful relationships, the risks involved in maintaining them, and grappling with feelings of uselessness or despair that wash over us. The final sequence brings all of this together beautifully.

Sober and even life affirming portrait of the appeal of moderate drinking, which doesn't villianise or demonise alcohol, without shying away from the health issues around addiction; the tone here is a more light-hearted TRAINSPOTTING. Highlighted by a wonderful sad-eyed performance from Mikkelsen, performing with gusto in an instantly iconic musical number finale; Vinterberg does some interesting, swoopy Dogme-like hand-held work to simulate the inebriated state of his characters.
