Ah Walter Hill, where else do bullets hit like cannon fire. Tonal nightmare, it’s like a violent drunk retelling the first film. Nolte still a glass gargling treasure. Nolte and Tighe talking to each other is like setting up two garbage disposals with gravel in them.

In the space of the sequel Nolte has completed the transition from mysterious 80's sex symbol to mysterious bloated distant relative.

I like how the title even seems ashamed of the movie it's announcing.

This is a generic action picture. What also is missing are scenes in which Nolte and Murphy could relate to each other quietly and with some wit.

The film deserves a lower score, and it would have been lower if I paid money to see and didn't have low expectations. The filmmakers unnecessarily try to recreate situations from the first film--shootouts at a Chinese hotel and the final confrontation. They also preserve the Cates-Hammond disliking of each other in a contrived and unsatisfying way. A typically dumb and unsatisfying "80s" action film. (ps: 57)

sequels can include running gags from previous movies and references to them as well...but should not just redo the same exact joke from the previous movie in the same exact manner and try to recreate the same scenes again.. still, i really like eddie murphy, and this movie is fine for a mindless time killer.

I don't know why people don't like this movie it's at least as good if not better then the first, which I thought was highly overrated. I'm also glad that Brion James got a bigger part in this film since he's always fun to watch. Yes there is some retread of the first one, but so what, no one complains about the other movies that do the same thing such as the Evil Dead 2. watch both movies back to back and you'll see just about everything is better in the sequel. nostalgia is overrated!

Pretty okay movie. Mostly interesting to watch right after the first to see how the careers of Murphy/Nolte/Hill and the 8 years between had affected the formula that both films used.

Another 48 Hrs is a slick rehash of the first one, so its appeal will largely depend on your affection for these characters, but the bad rap it gets is reminiscent of Airplane II: it's seriously exaggerated. Sure it isn't as fresh the second time round, but the pace is livelier and the action is more plentiful, and Nolte and Murphy have such natural chemistry that it's a pleasure watching their verbal sparathons. Hill's direction deftly balances grit and polish, and he stages a few good scenes.

2020 RE-WATCH: The boys are back in town! Watching this immediately after re-watching the original, all I can say is that this one was better. Nolte is more haggard and hard boiled and Murphy is more Axel Foley here than Reggie Hammond. The action is turned up a few notches from the original including some outstanding gun fights and stunt work. You just can't beat practical explosions and car crashes! Was this the start of Brion James being typecast? How could you not typecast him with that face

Only the billing has changed in this sequel that's more like a remake. There's still some boisterous fun from the team of Nolte and Murphy, but the film seems like a calculated attempt by talented filmmakers to make easy money by Giving the People What They Want.

Just like the original, except bad. As Leonard Maltin said, this film may hold the record for most broken panes of glass (although Seagal might dispute this claim). The beginning of Murphy's trip into the moviemaking abyss. There were no survivors.

The filmmakers slavishly copy everything that they believed was popular about the first film (they even have Eddie sing "Roxanne" again), but it's still a well-made Walter Hill action film. Besides, Eddie was still funny back in these days
