Awful. The music and almost everything else in this movie was very irritating. Tim Curry was in blackface. Racist and stereotypical portrayal of an Indian man. I hated it.

I refuse to acknowledge this garbage in any kind of positive light. Running kicks to the face for all involved in putting this or any other Annie-derivative sugar-coated crap into any facet of popular culture. This just in: I went to the same college as Aileen Quinn, and I will now officially never get the stink of proximity to people involved with this film off of my skin. Damn it times infinity.

Some catchy songs with which you can irritate all your non-theatre-nerd friends by singing at wildly inappropriate moments when someone accidentally stumbles upon a lyric in conversation, or alternately that will circulate in the Pacific Garbage Gyro of your mind as a form of psychosis for days on end, if you choose to martyr yourself to silence & not let the catharsis of shared suffering with friends do its work. How good of a person are you, thine heart weighed against Maat’s feather?

Blessedly lacking the sharper, cynical impulses of THE SOUND OF MUSIC…. No, but really: probably the best film you could get from such drippy source material; baffling why an ageing Huston would choose this material, though it’s possible he sees himself in the soft hearted curmudgeon Warbucks, who Finney imbues with a distinctly Hustonesque air. The film looks handsome, and is generally well-performed, but feels both pinched and bloated, puttering along slowly until its bizarre action climax(!).

It's long, it has no punch, half of it is boasting riches, and many songs are sang by people with unpleasant voices. The theme song and the Hard Knock life ae catchy but in retrospect for being known from elsewhere.

What drew Huston to this project exactly? The desire to be commercially viable? A big pay cheque? I'm sure it is more entertaining on stage, but on film it is a clunky, graceless affair; a string of mechanically choreographed show pieces that charm at first but grate quickly with their contrived cheer. My childhood lied to me! Again!"

Asides from the lowkey cringey racism, the songs are great and the adult actors do a good job, but when it's centered on a little girl who can only sing in that Musical Singing voice that's just grating, then there's a problem. The problem is only just buried by everyone else, especially Carol Burnett

I'm a musical fan and there's a lot of charm here, unfortunately it just doesn't have many memorable songs or even slight plausibility in the plot. The villains here are so far beyond even Home Alone-standards that it's laughable and slightly painful.

Entertainment: 4/4 -- dancing, singing kids, some of the most talented for their age kids are more talented. Memorable songs. Spirit: 2/3. Sustainability: 1/3.

It's just so sickly sweet. A few of the songs are nice, but some others aren't very good. The young girl playing the titular role is cute, but not a great actress. The thing that felt the most 'off' was the direction. John Huston directed some great films, but this was a truly odd choice for him, and it shows. His direction just doesn't work for a musical. I imagine the stage version might be good, but I can't say I really liked this too much.

This was a "family" favorite when I was little. Not sure why my mom and sister loved it so much. Not terrible, but it felt dated when I saw it for the first time around 1990.

Everyone talks very loudly with lots of aggressive smiling. It's aesthetically dull, and Punjab is a red herring. I did enjoy the bad guys and some of the songs.

Weak plot line and more sacharin than a diet coke factory. However, Carol Burnett saves the film from blandness with a good comedic performance. Far from disasterous but very one dimensional. A couple of good numbers with a few one liners, however the plot just lets it down.

Good for all ages. If you're a guy and you don't like Annie, then you have some serious Guys-gotta-be-tough issues. This movie is awesome and the songs and the little girl as Annie are awesome. Carol Burnett is awesom.

Falls under the Pullman Clause of shitty movie musicals, which states that any film featuring an actor not normally known for their singing talent (in this case, Albert Finney) is bound to be entertaining. Also "Hard-Knock Life." And Tim Curry, who may in fact be better than you.

hated the comic so I KNEW I was gonna hate the movie... Was forced to seem it on the big Screen when it first came out. Nowadays it should be seen as a breach of the Geneva Convention... john Waters uses the Soundtrack in a fun way in the movie "Serial Mom" though

Poor John Huston. Poor Albert Finney. In some ways this movie is better than the Broadway show on which it is based (for being closer to Harold Gray's original comic strip both in detail and spirit -- even Punjab and the Asp make non-speaking apperances) . . . but that isn't saying much. The show had a couple of good songs, a real barn-burning performance by Dorothy Loudon, and not much else . . . the movie is simply flat and lacking spirit. The whole venture -- stage, screen and TV remake --
