Scenery, textures, clothing, sidelong glances, and body language are done just right. Too bad the actresses spoil it by talking.

More vibrant than the Garbo version, which was too Hollywood. While Vivien Leigh took the role and made it her own, I'm not sure I loved her in it, yet at the same time I felt her take did a lot for the story. The main reason this variant of the Tolstoy story became compelling to me, much assisted by a quality British production.
