Britain's first animated feature, which, despite the title and Disney-esque animal animation, is in fact a no-holds-barred adaptation of George Orwell's classic satire on Stalinism, with the animals taking over their farm by means of a revolutionary coup, but then discovering that although all animals are supposed to be equal, some are more equal than others... I'm a huge Orwell fan and I can't believe how bad this adaptation is. The voice acting is the worst ever, the voice over narration is pathetic and they even changed the fantastic ending of the book. WHY? The animation is also incredibly dated and looks terrible. Luckily it's only like 70 minutes, which is sadly one of the only positives I can say about this abortion.

bad novel, bad film. an extremely uninspired adaption of orwell's already simple allegory. they managed to mess up the ending as expected, and changed the most important character of the novel, benjamin, into something completely different. the animation isn't particularly good either.

Romanı çok net hatırlamıyorsam da, filme dönüştürülürken içeriği biraz basitleştirilmiş, daha doğrusu seyreltilmiş gibi. Ama romanı görselleştirme yönünden oldukça başarılı denebilir.

I love the deceptively childish animation. I hope lots of parents were tricked into playing this for their kids.

They niced up Orwell's book a little but this is still a marvelous piece of work

George Orwell's political fable -- 'all animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others' -- is faithfully followed in this ambitious but rather disappointingly flat cartoon version.

I watched Animal Farm for the first time when I was a child, I did not quite get all the references. But in retrospect and after watching it when I was older, and it's good. However, it's clearly George Orwell's story that makes this good. I really should read the book sometime.

Thankfully this is not some glossy family friendly adaptation. It was largely funded by the CIA (!) so, besides an absurdly tacked-on happy ending, it definitely gets the point of Orwell's book and its value as anti-Soviet propaganda. The problem is that it's a cinematic dud. The animation is utterly undistinguished and the voice work is terribly monotonous. I feel like this story was meant to be told in book form.

Perfect adaptation of Orwell's simple and timeless allegory.

I seriously don't know what should be comic about about this movie, but maybe some people think that satire and comedy are the same. Of course the film profits endlessly from Welles' great original book, but it's a very good adaptation. It had me crying at some points as well. And in the end I felt a little sorry for pigs being abused for the bad characters (again).

Pretty good, but I sure would've loved if it had stuck to the book a little bit more. Still, I can't disapprove of any adaptation of Orwell.

AKA...A little donkey will lead them. Pretty limp dramatically, and the animation isn't much to write home about either. There are a few clever visual moves here and there, and the parable-like story certainly carries some appeal.

"Animal Farm" wasn't a bad try, given the year it was made, but it comes over now as dated, and a version of "Animal Farm for Dummies" .. for those people who cannot pick up the book. AF isn't a childrens book ... just because it is told using animation doesnt mean it is for children, just like Sausage Party wasnt!

MOVIES FROM THE CIA. decently entertaining tragedy for its short length. a bit heavy handed despite a nullifying end

There are some neat touches in this animated tale (the German expressionistic buildings, the creepy dark scene with the hens), but there's not enough of them -- and there's too much singing, if you can believe it. Benjamin's braying will always haunt me, as will the peculiar change of ending from the book.

I liked the book and was curious to see a 1954 take on it and see what I remembered of it or not. Some of the build up could not be achieved through song and animation, and how they cut it short, but I guess it was dark enough. The CIA ending though was just wild and hilarious, as it seems so rushed and coming out of nowhere. Like, IT'S OKAY GUY EVIL COMMIES CAN'T WIN, slathered over with even less subtlety Orwell had

As the other reviews said this is a movie from the CIA and it shows in the ending, which is completely misplaced. Hence the 60 is for the parts of the movie that are true to the book.

Old Major's speech featuring the Disneyish menagerie is surprisingly effective, but there's something almost inappropriate about this take on Orwell's classic.

The narrative complexity doesn't match the thematic complexity, which makes the film feel a little heavy handed and trite. The animation is also not that great. Despite these shortcomings, it's pretty good film that relies heavily on the underlying story for its interesting content.

Good entertainment. It's got the right amount of cuteness and darkness in its story and animation for the kids, yet there's the underlying social critique for the grown-up kids. Let down by a pretty weak ending.

Very bad adaptation. Mistakes are not in the animation side but in the subtle and a little less subtle ways the story has been changed.

A light touch working of Orwell's novel but conveying the underlying darkness and message - perhaps even more so due to the use of animation. A good introduction to the book for those who may find it too heavy - a little weak in the ending and some of the animation is questionable quality but a decent short worth watching

Is it just me or is the idea of a political allegory for children in really bad taste?

Very creepy filum. @Moribunny I'm not sure that animated films are necessarily always aimed at children. Nor am I sure that children or indeed anybody is well served by insulating them from major life issues, and questions arising from attempts to deal with inequality . I certainly think that this political (with a small p) allegory is preferable to the covert establishment political message pushed by many animated films aimed at kids:- Beautiful=establishment=good, Ugly=prols=bad
