Top badass moment? Clearly MGM got Jerry a personal trainer and fed him steroids to prepare for this film. He was fucking HUGE! If he’d tried to get into one of those skirting board mouse holes, he’d have demolished the entire wall. Also, does a US navy uniform allow you access to everywhere? Strangers’ homes, film studios, closed rehearsals, schools... And thanks to Ms. Grayson's singing, every bit of glass in my flat has now shattered. 1 cat (Tom, briefly), no chainsaws or decapitations.

"Particularly notable for its Gene Kelly-Jerry Mouse dance number" says IMDB. What's the point when they're both cartoons? It's actually the worst scene in the movie. Cringey in how smug it all is. The title song is pretty good though and Dean Stockwell is interesting.

If Sinatra and Kelly are top-billed, you're going to get a lot of song-and-dance numbers. Unfortunately, quite a few really stretch the plot far afield. Still, it has that feel-good effect even without having too many great moments. (I'm most impressed by Frank keeping up with Gene on those long-take dance sequences.)

As a buddy film I like this. As a vehicle for Kelly and Sinatra to sing, dance and riff of each other I like this (the film is at its best when these two are on screen together). For me, Sinatra is particularly charming. But as a musical it is only slightly better than an average film. The main problem is that the female characters are weak (maybe it's the writing), or perhaps it's just that Grayson and Britton lack the presence to match that of Sinatra and Kelly (admittedly a tough ask).

The pure charisma on screen is simply amazing! Gene Kelly finally get to polish his screen persona to what was natural for him and Frank Sinatra gets his major breakthrough! Sure, a light plot, but it's done right! Plus, Anchors Aweigh (1945) symbolizes a new post-war era of Hollywood. A breath of fresh air! And introducing Kelly's best dancing partner.... Jerry! The happy vibes are high in this one!

Escapist WWII entertainment--part wholesome love triangle story, part weird valentine to the U.S. Navy. It has a certain calculated charm, though not Kathryn Grayson--she's tough as nails. The billing order suggests Sinatra was a bigger star at this point than Kelly, which seems strange considering his inept acting.

Fun enough musical comedy, Kelly and Sinatra are pretty fun together, though I think they'd be better if their roles were switched. Kelly's solo dance numbers are just too much though. Ten minutes of wordless dancing with cartoon Tom and Jerry just brings the whole film to a halt.

I know where Sinatra wants to drops his anchor. The back channeler.

A perfectly passable musical with charismatic performances by Sinatra and Kelly. Their enthusiasm (especially Kelly's, who is just so damn charming) honestly makes the whole ordeal worthwhile.

A disappointment as the type of film I normally love! The dance double with Jerry mouse and the one with the Mexican child, and the Torreador tap to Argentine Tango, were the only stand out moments. Not being a Sinatra fan probably loses most of the point of the film for me. It lacked a catchy tune for a female voice. On the Town was a far better Gene Kelly on leave from the navy musical!

Anchors Aweigh just a vehicle for set song and dance routines, some of which are well done and original The characters are all quite likeable, the story is predictable. Entertaining but veers towards the dull.

An entertaining musical that begins to overstay its welcome at nearly 2 and a half hours. Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra are both great as usual.

This really is a charming film musical. Sinatra and Kelly are great playing it with just the right mix of humour and naivity. Great production values, colourful as the Wizard of Oz, and with the classic 'Jerry' animated dance routine. Much of the charisma in On the Town owes itself to Anchors Aweigh. Under-rated and under shown. Worth a watch and revel in the rich vocals and musical score. - Brilliant

at times is drags a bit and it moves slightly slow, but this is a pretty good movie. none of the songs are overly good, but the dancing was great, and the story was a real keeper.

I really loved this when I was little. Sinatra was a skinny little kid, and Gene Kelly danced with Jerry of "Tom & Jerry". Again, I like very few musicals, if any, so this must've been good if I liked it so much.
