Fine, melodramatic Richard Gere vehicle. I really don't know how much more I can say about it. It is a film.

HOW MOVIES ARE MADE "We'll make a film about an unconventional fighter pilot and the woman he loves!" *Cough TOP GUN did it Cough* "Oh bugger. Can we do it anyway?" Do you mind that it will be complete toss? "Do I still get a Ferrari for it?"

Sometimes it's good, but mostly it just shows glimpses of potentially good ideas executed in really by the number, and occasionally worse, ways.

I once read this was one of the movies guys were allowed to cry at? I think some woman must have wrote that. It is nothing more than a watchable chick flick dressed up for dudes by centering it around military. Lou Gossett Jr. is very believable as a Marine Corps drill instructor. David Keith probably does the best acting in the movie, and is the guy most men feel for in this movie.

It's basically the boot camp scenes from Full Metal Jacket, but Hollywoodized, with additions like a romantic subplot and absentee fathers.

"It's crap, but crap on a motorcycle."--Pauline Kael. She was right, as usual. Watchable only because it whizzes by. Melodrama with lousy writing. It's rather amusing to watch Richard Gere bumble through this, before he picked up his tricks that later stand in for actual acting ability. David Keith and Debra Winger are really good--far better than this crap deserves.

Whatever happened to Debra Winger? Great part by Gossett jr as well, and of course Gere for the ladies.

Wonderful performances by all in this great movie with an improbable happy ending. Unforgettable theme song.

My God the ending was cheesy, but then again who cares when you have such a lovely time watching it. Both Gere and Winger [how I love this woman, mmmmmm] have done their parts with energy and grace. Also Robert Loggia as the father had a small but great role. However, I take my hat off to Louis Gossett Jr. - the best drill sergeant role ever [ex aequo to R. Lee Ermey from "Full Metal Jacket"].

It's so bad. But why do I love it? Maybe the iconic finish with everyone clapping & freeze frame. This has so many campy moments. Richard Gere is an unrepentant asshole who doesn't even really redeem himself in the end. "I got nowhere else to go!" Debra Winger is cute. The true star is Sgt. Foley. Realistic training but the candidates were so chicken considering they should have prepared. Nice PNW backdrop. Fav scene: realizing that even womanizing David Keith was a better human being.

Full Metal Jacket: the drill sergeant spiritual prequel. Also am I crazy or did Tom Cruise steal the whole motorcycle thing in Top Gun (and every subsequent film of his) from Gere in this?

Richard Gere'dan asker talim dersleri ve kız tavlama eğitimleri. Oscar adaylıkları olan film, filmin müziği meşhur Eye Of The Tiger'ı yenmiş. 80 li yılların en sıkıcı filmi. Richard Gere evlere şenlik. Filmin sonunda, Korkma sönmez bu şafaklarda yüzen al sancak. Kalk gidelim. Sahile gidelim.

May well be a gripping melodrama for anyone who's never seen a movie before; an obvious inspiration for TOP GUN, told in a tiresome, laborious way. Thanks largely to Gere's overly stoic performance, it never manages to have much fun with its soapy material. Predictable to a fault (almost down to lines of dialogue); Gossett seems to be having a good time as the hard-ass, but he is more a collection of tepid cliches than a real character; Winger does her best, but can't quite elevate the material.

Gere hadn't yet matured as an actor and the psychological depth leaves as much to be desired but in spite of these not insignificant flaws I enjoyed the film.

The actually plot is pretty decent. It has some decent ebb and flow. What got this movie a low rating is that for every dramatic moment (both romantic and unromantic) the backing music is an instrumental version of "Love Lift Us Up Where We Belong". It's a good song to hear occasionally but every 5-15 minutes gets annoying quick.

Old-fashioned without sacrificing its characters to simplicity, An Officer and a Gentleman successfully walks the fine line between sweeping romance and melodrama.

It's not too good or too bad sooo nothing surprising here just an "okay" movie. As a couple Richard Gere and Debra Winger were cute enough to follow their relationship. However I'll call this movie "The Discret Charm of the Aviator".

On of the most interesting things about this film is the effect you can see that it had on other similar films throughout the years like Fully Metal Jacket and Top Gun.

Punchy and hard hitting at the time of creation, this has mellowed over time and may now seem tame in parts. Forceful performances by Gere, David Keith and Robert Loggia with equally strong supporting cast. Some of it's gritty quality may have been lost but this still retains some iconic scenes and an underlying love story that is still strong.

I've seen it several times, but it's been quite a few years. It still holds up. Louis Gossett Jr won the Oscar, and he delivers. Of course, Richard Gere and Debra Winger were great as well. Emotional and feel-good drama all rolled up into one.

A film I have watched over and over since I was a kid and annoyingly know pretty much every word to. I am a self-confessed, non-girly girl and a film friend thought they'd made a breakthrough when they heard I liked this film, sorry to disappoint but it was the assort course, the relationship between Zac and Sid and the relationship between Zac and Serjeant Foley that I loved so much.

Very Good. Richard Gere plays a naval flight academy recruit running away from his unhappy past. Can he defeat his inner demons to win the respect that he craves and accept the love of his small town girlfriend?
