An American Haunting is based on true events documented by the State of Tennessee. Between the years 1818-1820, the Bell Family of Red River, Tennessee was visited by an unknown, unseen presence that terrorized the family. To date, it is the only recorded case in American history where a spirit of entity has caused the death of a human being. (After Dark Films)

What the hell are Spacek and Sutherland doing in this pitiful excuse of a movie? It's not scary, it's not entertaining, it's kind of funny... Well, actually, it's quite funny, but for fuck's sake, it's just awful.

It's just the same special effects over and over and over again, and waking up and screaming and both at once and pretending to fall. Waste of time, no tension, no peak, dumb ending. Reading a wikipedia article afterward helped me understand some of the "manifestations" and nonsensical noises heard at the start, because it had confused me while watching.

They overindulged on the creaks and squeaks in this movie and didn't really spend enough time on the characters. As a consequence, I found myself not caring very much about what happened to them. The Exorcist type goings on also left this feeling a bit samey as far as I'm concerned.

Alright suspense/horror flick unfortunatly once it's revealed what exactly is the cause of the 'Haunting', the film basically nosedives then bursts in flames in the last 10mins or so. not really worth your time.

not the least bit scary, the resolution is nonsensical and atrocious, and the "chilling last scene" is way too unintentionally hilarious and absurd

I automatically have a bias against movies in the 19th or earlier centuries with people claiming curses or possession or witches. It just didn't have a good enough story to do anything for me.
