An Actor Prepares

An unfortunate waste of what sounds like a promising idea on paper - Irons going balls-out (ahem) as a "Dirty Grandpa". Watchable simply for the pleasure of seeing Irons take great pleasure in portraying a misanthropic miscreant; his performance deserved a better film and a more substantial co-star than Huston, who's playing at a primetime sitcom level. The inevitable slide into sentimental treacle in the final act is also overdone and heavy handed. Enough here for Irons fans to hang in there!

The "plot", such as it is, is both formulaic and preposterous. The only reason to watch this is Jeremy Irons, who clearly relishes playing this obnoxious character... everything out of the character's mouth is egocentric and over the top, and often quite amusing... Irons times it all perfectly. That must--literally--be enough for you, as there is NOTHING else here.
