American Heist

I love heist movies. This has a great diversion tactic but instead of spending more time on this interesting part it winds up following 2 characters we know nothing about. The family drama is boring. This could have been at least good but unfortunately it ain't.

Aerial shots and locations in and around New Orleans were occasionally interesting, but nothing else was.

I could see the whole thing but a little tricky because I was expecting a heist movie and for the first part—an hour—is more like a Drama Thriller.

Oh lord. Not only is American Heist laughably bad due to its strange directing style, and boring script, but it's actors do nothing for this. While Christiansen gets a lot of flack, he definitely shows why in this film, while I'm convinced Adrien Brody signed on for a different movie entirely. Don't watch it. It's not even so bad it's good. Just so bad.

There aren't a lot of good heist movies being made nowadays, and American Heist, from its generic title all the way to its bored-looking actors, is the prototype for the bad ones. It takes a bunch of genre tropes, throws them together with a story that makes Payday 2 look impressive, and then hopes that it works. It doesn't. Not at all. Adrien Brody, miscast as he is, is the only worthwhile part of American Heist, and he can't even come close to saving it.

Are you expecting a good movie after seeing who's playing the main roles, then I'll warn you already now : This is a woefully bad movie. Adrien Brody, Oscar winner for his brilliant performance in "The Pianist", and Christensen, who's undeniably a virtuoso in handling a lightsaber but exhibits a présence that can be surpassed without a problem by Chewbacca, aren't a guarantee for an enjoyable film. This wasn't alright. Pity, with Adrien Brody too...

Adrien Brody has fallen on tough times to be making this kind of shit. Mediocre at best.
