Punishingly dull biopic on history's most fabled aviatrix, Amelia Earhart (portrayed by Hilary Swank, with traces of Katharine Hepburn rather than of Kansas wheatfields in her speech), her final flight endlessly interrupted by how-she-got-there flashbacks. The only suspense is in whether the film is going to offer an ending or an enigma.

Those moments are too far apart for high drama, for profound feelings of emotional identification. But they aren't so scattered as to cause the whole project to crash and burn. Amelia may contain just enough fuel to inspire viewers to learn more about the real and much more vivid woman who has inspired countless people to learn how to fly, both literally and figuratively. It's enough to make you wish someone would make a movie about her.

This story revealed several aspects of Amelia Earhart's personal life and character that was previously unknown to me, however it failed to provide an emotional impact as it lacked enthusiasm in the telling of her story. The movie is only slightly better than a biography without much more to distinguish it. I really wanted to love this, but was quite disappointed by its lack of heart. I'll bet this director has never made anything really good.

wonderful story completely ruined... nonlinear storytelling combined with the lack of character development makes it looks like the 2 hour trailer of an upcoming lousy series `Adventures of Amelia`... very sorry for Hilary Swank who tries to save it

Interesting character. Hillary shows her limitations without a wonderful script.

"Amelia attempts the yeoman's task of recounting a tale about which it has virtually nothing to say." - Nick Schager

This movie, like their relationship, was functional, but didn't have any spark to it.

I believe this movie could have been done much better. I felt the whole biopic to be extremely slow and boring. The entire movie has a disconnect. Not an entertaining movie either.

An interesting story/character in a disjointed poop of a film with a non linear narrative and ponderous interjected snippits.

Good-looking, if old-fashioned. Director Nair highlights the wonder (and danger) of flying in the 1920s and 30s through Swank's sparkling lead performance and how the adventuresome Amelia dealt with worldwide fame as well as her unconventional marriage to New York publisher George Putnam (Gere).
